Awesome, I'm going to get the $15 one then. If I order tonight, and it ships tomorrow, it says it should be 2 days via UPS, so I will probably have it before I need it.

Well, I'm getting close to having everything disassembled, but I am having a heck of a time getting the crank bolt out. I tried putting a bolt in the fly wheel, but that didn't work, and I almost got the bolt wedged in there to the point I thought it wasn't going to come out. I have an air impact wrench, but it must not have enough power. Whats the secret?

I have a few pictures that I'll add later.

EDIT: Would I risk breaking a tooth off the flywheel if I find a way to wedge something in there or would that stand up to it?

I've braced (with a helper) a prybar on the teeth, but I strongly suggest you use a long 3/8" socket extension through the flywheel. It's possible if you crank it around to where it's at about 7 o'clock on the motor if you're facing the water pump (low and to the rear).

You won't break that extension, and you can leave it in until you tighten it back up. Or use a prybar on the teeth to turn it back and release it.

Try oiling your impact and running the compressor at full pressure. What compressor and impact are you using? Links?

I didn't see any holes in the flywheel to get a extension through since it is still bolted to the torque converter.

I'll try oiling the impact, I think its a chicago pneumatics impact, it's not real big so it just might not have the power. As far as the compressor I'd have to look.

Thanks for the quick reply btw.

Ok I got it. I found where to get the extension in the flywheel, that and a big lever broke it loose. Thanks Bill.

I have a spare one from the engine in my 99 that I had that spit out a rod this fall anyway, so far I don't need it. Cam is about to come out now, just had to come inside to find my T-30 socket for the thrust plate. I plan on working into the night for a while now that I am free of interruptions. :)

Update: Cam is in, timing set is on and front cover back on and subframe is back up. I'm working on the new springs now. Progress is slow but steady. I'm working alone and it's my first time doing the cam, plus every once in a while I have to stop to go help my brother at his place with a few things. I'm hoping to finish tonight. :beerchug:

Also, the coolant temp sensor got broke, so I need a new one. Anyone have one from a 2000+??? the one from my 99 is different, it has 3 pins, and 00+ has 2.

I don't get why camming has issues on these engines. Sucks to hear Tom.

I don't think the cam itself caused the problem, had I kept my original SC housing, and not touched the PCV, it may not have happened.

Anyway, got the oil pan pulled, no chunks of metal, but there is some metal in the pan, I stuck a magnet in it and it picked up some very small shavings....if one of the rod bearings was spun would I be able to tell with out taking to cap off?

No not yet, by the time I started calling it was after 5, I'm gonna do some calling in the morning. If I can find a short block for a good price I'd do that, I have a spare set of heads/LIM/SC already.

I think you have two seperate issues? The vacuum leak may be from improperly seated LIM gaskets and the knock may be from a loss of oil pressure from damaged cam bearings durring the cam install? How hard was it to get the cam in?

I got the engine out, and started taking it apart. So far I haven't found anything bad.

Supercharger and LIM gaskets were seated properly. I got the cam back out, and it is in the same condition it was in when I put it in. Just a little wear from the 10k miles that are on it. I shined a flashlight in to look at the cam bearings, and they all appear to be in place yet, but it is hard to see if they are nicked at all. If one once I would think it would have damaged the cam itself as well.

Tomorrow I will take a look at the bottom end, and hopefully I can find an engine. If I can't get an L67 soon I will probably pick up a L36 to drop in to get it back on the road. Then I can take my time rebuilding my L67. Luckily my sister is going to florida for a week starting friday, so I can borrow her car for now, so I have some time to find one, but if not I may have a N/A SSEi for a while.
