Re: 2005 won't stay running. Rough idle. New MAF?
Yup, it definitely was the MAF. Did the un-plug test, and it was interesting. I started with the MAF still plugged in, and it started right up, and stayed running. I was just curious whether it would or not, but the engine was cold, so it doesn't really count. Unplugged the MAF. Let it get up to ...

2005 won't stay running. Rough idle. New MAF?
Here's the scenario:
First off, I've had the car for about 40K miles. It's never exhibited even close to this behavior before. Let's rule out some things: I pulled the air filter (K&N high flow), and it looks fine. Plugs and wires have about 35K on them or so. Just did a fresh oil change, as well ...

Re: New engine mount! YAY!
I feel like the fuel economy is a red-herring. Probably the switch back to summer fuel more than anything. I went from 18-19 MPG all winter to 20.5 pretty consistently the last couple tanks.
I know there are lots of variables, but I am a FREAK about my fuel economy, just keeping an eye on it ...

Re: New engine mount! YAY!
Was it knocking when you went into gear or Took off?
Not really, no. I didn't experience that. It didn't feel like anything was "wrong" until I fixed it and it felt better, but I think the mount was probably bad when I got the car 40K miles ago, because it never really got any "worse", you know ...

New engine mount! YAY!
So my front drivers side engine/transmission mount needed replaced, like most of ours eventually need, and I got it done Saturday. What a HUGE difference! I didn't know something didn't "feel" right, until after it got replaced, and then....whoa.....way more responsive on the throttle, and my fuel ...

Re: Transmission won't shift from 1st to 2nd (intermittently
Final story - everything looked actually pretty good. I used a personal mechanic (as opposed to one out of a large shop with the insurance rules where you can't be on the floor, etc.) to do the pan drop/filter replacement/fluid change, and I sat and watched the whole thing...even looked at some ...

Re: Transmission won't shift from 1st to 2nd (intermittently
UPDATE: The morning after posting this, I was able to pump 1 gallon of tranny fluid out in about 3 minutes with the handy siphon pump that I bought. That was good. I then replaced the 4 quarts of said tranny fluid with the cheapest Dex VI that I could get (knowing that on Wednesday, two days from ...

Transmission won't shift from 1st to 2nd (intermittently)
Hi all! How is everybody? I haven't posted in awhile, mostly because my Bonnie has been doing alright, and have been busy with life in general. Here is the problem:
I was leaving from somewhere the other day (about 10 days ago), and my transmission wouldn't find 2nd gear. Would.not.find.it. The RPM ...

Re: Tips for Road Trips
Top up the air in the spare tire.
One of the most useful things to me on long trips with my 97SE is an OBDII codereader. Sometimes on a long trip you'll throw a code. Being in the middle of nowhere with a Check Engine Light is not a place you want to be without a code reader. My car throws the ...

Very nice! Looks good from here. My '97 had 225K on it, but the LIM's weren't done and it threw a rod. I've also been using Mobil 1 synthetic, at about the same intervals you change yours. I'm coming up on my first year of ownership, and I put about 20K on it this first year. Runs smooth though.

Re: time for a thermostat
Im just going by what happened when I did mine twice. Coolant loss was a minimal, about a pint, no where near a half gallon.
If its that big of a deal, just pop the petcock and catch the fluid or siphon it out of the radiator with a hose.
Yeah, I just did mine a few weeks ago, and I was in a ...

Re: Boss Ass Bonnie!
I gotta say....if I saw that car in person, it would probably only make me angry. The air intake isn't even done properly. The amount of money spent on those "upgrades" would have been better served in other areas of the car. That said...the work does look solid, but what a waste.

While the 92-99 is my favorite gen, it probably best financially just to stick with your car for a while anyways as you know what you've done to it already.
Agreed. This is my first 2000+, I've had a '93 SE, '92 SSEi, '97 SE, and this '05 SE, in that order. I like my car, I've put a lot of money ...

So I've been cruising Craigs List a lot looking at Bonnevilles, just because like many of you, I like to. In my perusing, I came across this:

Re: Would you trade a 00+ for a '97-'99?!
I just went and looked at a pretty clean '97 40th anniversary model. It was just an SE, silver...actually kind of a boring one, and the one I had wanted to look at wasn't even on the lot. That one was also a '97, but an SSE with only 126K miles on it. I was looking just on a whim, because the other ...

If you have electrical skills, there is a tutorial somewhere here at the club on how to do this. Otherwise I can vouch for Harofreak00's service. I sent him mine a year ago -- no problems since. He's done plenty of them and is quite good at it.
