Still want the OEM Radio

Post by Bonneville since 1984 »

I know everyone here will offer an opinion on this one. I like the OEM radio that came with my 2002 SSEI. The digital display for the station and other info is "Gone". I have searched for used.....new....and replacement with aftermarket.

I would still like to keep the OEM. Has anyone had one rebuild through a Dealer or Aftermarket company. What is your opion on an Aftermarket unit that will still use the Steering Wheel controls.

Let the fun begin.

If you have electrical skills, there is a tutorial somewhere here at the club on how to do this. Otherwise I can vouch for Harofreak00's service. I sent him mine a year ago -- no problems since. He's done plenty of them and is quite good at it.

While doing it yourself is definitely doable, I would recommend having some soldering knowledge, and some precise hands and fingers that can be gentle if need be.

Personally, I'd say Andrew is offering you a *dang* good deal.

I followed the tutorial on here and used a bulb that was easily found at a store like WalMart in the auto department. It was pretty easy to do as long as you're handy with a soldering iron. If you'd rather not mess with it, although I've never had any work done by HaroFreak, I've contacted him a few times about things, and I've been on here long enough to vouch for him also.

I've literally sat there and watched him do it, and it's like 10 minutes tops. He's the master at fixing these radios.
