hey guys,

i've read a few topics about the shift kits you guys have been using. i know most seem to use the transgo set. i also have read the transgo with the intense kit also. my question is, which one is better or should i combine them as others seem to have done. i saw on intense racing that they have the transgo kit for $79.99 and the intense performance kit for $99.99. now the transgo seems to have just a couple of seals and springs. the intense kit seems to have other parts other than springs.

i'm considering doing this when i replace my pcs. my transmission seems to have hard shifts that come and go. i was also curious as to if you guys thought doing the shift kit would be a better place to start and see if that helped the pcs issue or just go ahead and do the pcs? i think doing the pcs and shift kit is the way to go, but, i'm new to transmission work, other than replacing them. lol..

thanks alot for the advice.

The only differences between the Intense kit and the TransGo kit are a filter and a piece of sandpaper (in the Intense kit), and a spring for the valvebody (in the TransGo, not in the Intense). Oh, and the Intense kit is $40 more.

You wouldn't want to combine them. You'd throw half of each kit out. Go to your favorite parts store and get a filter and some fluid and use the Trans-Go, minus the spring for in the valve-body.

thanks 00beast.

do you have any idea which springs others were installing to change up the kit? i thought they were installing different springs in the 1 and 2 spots. hmmm.. guess i better look it up.

basically i'm trying to figure out what others have done so i can go from there. i like to get an idea so when i make a desicion it's one that i've looked at all avenues and picked one that works best for what i want to accomplish.

Yes, that's correct, you're replacing the springs in the 1-2 and 2-3 accumulators. Both kits come with similar springs and spacers for those spots, so you'd be throwing the other kit's out.

I recommend the TransGo kit, those DIY kits have no real R&D behind them other than what some guy on ClubGP said worked for him. TransGo puts tons of hours into their kits to ensure proper function and long life.

Get the TransGo. There's no comparison between that and the DIY shift kit. The DIY is meant for a few months before PCS replacement. The TransGo is meant to prevent the problems in the first place, and does a much better job of giving you a usable transmission before needing PCS replacement.

My car is getting its PCS replaced after ~40k miles with some type of shift kit installed, ~24k of those miles with the TransGo kit in. They bought me enough time to get the money together to have the PCS replaced since it's on its last legs, shift kit or not.

Where's the cheapest place to buy the Transgo kit?

You can check e-bay or google shopping to see if you can get it cheaper.

What about the shift kit from ZZ Performance? It's $39 plus shipping. Any good?

No, the ZZP kit is only spacers, no springs. Get the Trans-Go kit. I've heard from numerous owners that they don't like the ZZP kit.

ZZP shift kit can be made for $5 at Lowe's. I had one for 10k miles before getting the TransGo. Do it right, do it once, get the TransGo. It's the ZZP kit on steroids.
