Does anyone know of any good exhaust kits that will fit a 2000 bonne SSEi? I'm looking to start doing performance upgrades and I figured I'd start with the cheaper upgrades and then move up in the engine.

There are no 'kits'.

A downpipe and larger cat would help though. Nothing to be gained by replacing any other piping or mufflers.

Something along the lines of this:

Oh ok, I was also looking to gain a different sound, if there are any parts that would add a deeper sound in the exhaust system, please do link if possible, thanks!

Are you looking for performance upgrades or a sound upgrade? You will never get the V8 rumble out of a V6. There are some on here that have changed the sound of their exhaust, but a lot of it depends on what your tastes are.

The downpipe and cat will change the tone of your exhaust, and won't be wasted performance like mufflers would be. Do the cat and downpipe first, then decide if you want to change the mufflers for the sound.

Sounds like a plan Will, and is that the exact down pipe that you linked be the one I need?

There are several big and small names out there for options. The Series 1 downpipe from the factory is free-flowing, so I'm not your expert on sources for the S2. Others will chime in.

I have a ZZP stainless 3" (outside diameter) Downpipe waiting for a high flow cat and installation. Seems like a very high quality part.

For an idea of what you're looking at in sound difference, I've got the same 3" ZZP downpipe as 00Beast with a 3" magnaflow cat and a ZZP PLog (Which they seem to be out of stock right now) on and otherwise stock exhaust. The sound gained a noticeably deeper tone and a little more rumble but it wasn't any louder than before.

Here's a video of mine for a bit of reference. The intake almost drowns out the exhaust sound in the first part. It sounds different and better in person, but you can get an idea from the video.

^ His car does sound pretty sweet in person. I've only heard it at low RPM, but it's still nice.

To comment on: it sounds best with the manifold open! So ultimately, what do we need to do to get them to sound that way? I have searched and seen all sorts of different combos and setups. But really the best sound i have heard is when the manifolds are either left open or the pipes off. I've seen peeps do Magnaflows. Thrushes. Cat backs. Upping the pipe diameter. And either removing or reinstalling the resonators. But ultimately, what gives the Bonnies the deepest loudest rumble? You know, 60s muscle car rumble. At least that we can acquire with 6 cylinders.

If that's your cup of tea, fine. But for most here, that's a horribly annoying sound we'd rather not have on our daily driver. Especially when it hurts performance, which a wide-open exhaust will.

Hey hey. Back it up. I don't want it hurtin' perfo. Perhaps i shoulda specified that. I don't want it THAT wide open. But i did think the open manifold sounded good. Not "horribly annoying" to me. I ain't as old as my car makes me look, but old enough to remember what strong cars should sound like.

Try driving it that way. It'll sound worse! I have an electric servo exhaust cutout right before the cat. It only sounds good at 4k. Nothing under, nothing over.

I have modified my exhaust a little at a time over the years.
It is a bit extreme right now.
The best sounding performance mod has to be headers. Also the most expensive.
The 123456 firing order of these V6 engines will NEVER sound as good as a V8, even with the best mufflers.
Keep your stock mufflers. The biggest improvements occur the closer you modify to the outlet of the exhaust valve.

To get a real burbly exhaust note you need them futher up the exhaust system, not really possible on our cars, Another way is headers. S2 and S1 have distinct sounds just because of the different exhaust vale spacing, and some to do with manifold design.
