The security light never goes out to tell me that it accepted the key.

Where in the ever loving hell is the passlock module on this thing. Short of completely pulling the dash I haven’t been able to find it yet.

I'll see if I can find a picture from when I had my dash out. You don't need to pull the dash to access it, but if I can find something, it may at least give you a better idea where to look.

With the scanner hooked up and watching the live data I can watch the key being cycled, I don’t remember exactly what it was called vtd something, when I cycled from off to run I could watch and it would go from ignition off to saying no coded key. I have a persistent b3055 code “no modulation”.

So now if you aren't getting the other DTC's you originally reported, it's possible that this extra wiring/bypass attempts were actually the cause of them. One example for instance, the exciter is only powered very briefly while it tries to check the key and anything longer than 1 second will set a fault code. Since you're not reporting anything except the B3055 now, I'm not as suspicious of the exciter or VTD module. The live data also seems to support activity as you cycle the key.

One thing to consider that's a fairly inexpensive option is to go to the dealer, get a new key cut and try to learn it. To make sure everything is 100%, I would use a dealer key and not some generic from another source that may or may not be properly compatible. The best case scenario is that this fixes your problem. The worst case scenario is that you now have a spare key once the problem is resolved. Let's face it, having a spare key is never a bad idea anyway.

Does the key you have actually show a Pontiac logo on the black plastic, or does it appear to be a generic key?

It’s a Pontiac key. Depending on how much I tinker with it I also get the antenna shorted to battery code. If I clear it I instantly get the b3055 code back. I’ll get a new gym key cut.

For reference, here is where the VTD module is located. It's unlikely this is the problem though. This picture is from the back of the dash. If you're looking at the dash head on, it's below the key module and immediately left of the climate control head. You might be able to see that it clips into the dash if you zoom in on the picture. The tab will be on the left side (if you're facing it from the front, right side in this photo).

1. Remove the knee bolster.
2. Remove the instrument cluster trim plate bezel.
3. Remove the radio.
4. Remove the PASS-Key III® module from the instrument panel.
4.1. Insert your right hand through the opening at the left side of the radio opening.
4.2. Push the tab towards the left side of the vehicle.
4.3. Grasp the module through the knee bolster opening.
4.4. Push the module forward to remove.
5. Disconnect the electrical connector.

Glad to hear it's working well for you. Now you just need to tackle the other problems. I'll be interested in hearing how those work out for you.

Now that it’s running I’ll tackle the other problems, the blower fan motor doesn’t work, none of the windows work or door locks other than the drivers and the lcd screen doesn’t work on the stereo... I’ve got a laundry list of crap to fix.

The blower motor could be a few things, but I'd probably look at testing the motor first. If it needs to be changed, I understand it's a bit of a pain. GM changed things slightly in (I think 2002) which made it much easier to get in/out for the later years. Sadly, that won't help you. If it's not the fan, the next most likely suspect is going to be the fan control module. Least of all I'd suspect the Instrument Panel Module or wiring from that to the motor controller (which is under the dash behind the glove box).

I can almost guarantee that the door lock/window problem is the splice under the driver's seat that connects four tan coloured wires. This is the communication line for the Simply Bus Interface (SBI) that connects the four door modules together.

As for the radio, does the display not work, or is it just the backlighting that doesn't illuminate? There are three light bulbs behind the display that are well known to burn out over time. I believe there is a detailed write-up (thanks to harofreak00). Link should be on that page of common problems. Also, he does this repair for a good price if you ship him your radio.
