Under hard accelleration I sometimes get hestation. I ruled out fuel delivery based on the fact that I used a fuel pressure tester along with a OBD II scantool to pulse the injectors. They all came out with the same reading. I am wanting to know if I can test the ICM with the scantool. I put a set of 8mm AC Delco wires on it with NGK V power plugs. The coil packs are off an earlier 3.8 n/a with brass tips (thought these would be better..... apparently not). SO I am at this question in my mind..... which ICM should I use and what coil packs will deliver the hottest spark. Hot spark = hot ignition. Weak spark = weak ignition. Beginning to wonder if they're giving out on me as I did get the packs from the wrecking yard as I did the ICM.

Any advice is greatly appreciated. :)

What engine did the parts come from? Series I or II, supercharged or not? Basically what you would have had stock on a 2003 SSEi would have been the best for it. There is no performance ICM and they are all the same between all 3800 engines from the 90s up. The coils though, Series II L67 (supercharged) coils are basically the best you can get. MSD and I believe Accel makes coils for these engines but they are not any better then stock.

Looks like I need to make a trip to the wrecking yard again. The coils came off of a series I n/a engine. The ICM was bought with the engine I got from the wrecking yard. I am beginning to wonder if a crankshaft position or cam position sensor can cause these effects. I don't want to sell this car having issues because I am soon to advertise it for sale.

Yea, definitely grab a set of coils from a Series II supercharged engine. Not saying that is the source of your hesitation, but it is a good place to start with known wrong parts.

UGH I got some off of a n/a engine. Hope this'll help for the time being. Also wondering if high speed glazing on the plugs could cause this sort of problem. It is said that this glazing forms a conductive material on the porcelain and can cause misfires. I have also read here the SSEi owners use colder than stock plugs. Should I do the colder plug deal?

You can run colder if you want, but it really isn't necessary. I just basically do it out of habit more then anything anymore.

I will do that because I like to hard throttle my S/C Bonnie frequently. Will let you know how it goes.

Ok. I popped the hood and from what I can see, cylinders 3 & 5 are glowing red hot at the exhaust port. The catalytic converter is also glowing red hot on the post side. This leads me to believe these injectors are hanging up or the plugs are high speed glazed so much I am getting poor ignition. I hope it's just the plugs and not something more severe. I at least want the next owner to have a decent running car. Not one with problems.

Put one step colder autolite single Plats 605s in. Running smoothly except for a small hiccup with o e wore coming off and I now have a CEL on for some unknown reason. Will find out what it is if it don't go out.

Code is P0420. Something to do with the rear catalytic sensor. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
