Re: The buick seems to be taking on water...

Check all of the above. Id also add the trunk weatherstrip and fenderwells.
I had a little hole on the passenger side fenderwell which leaked into the trunk and passenger side floor.

When I changed my 95s starter, it was easy.
Dropped right down after removing the bolts and wiring.

Id replace the platinum plugs with the standard ones.
See if that fixes your ignition miss.

Re: Weird smell coming out of the 97

The a/c evaporator should drip near the back of the firewall on the drivers side. You should see the end of a tube sticking out of the firewall lower to the ground.

If this leaks, the water would smell a little funky if it allows to stand for while. Just something to check before you tear into the ...

Re: Weird smell coming out of the 97

Coolant pressure tester might work in this situation.

One more thing to check is the little weep hole for the A/C system. My mom and dad had a Malibu that leaked from the little fitting, it dripped condensation onto the carpet.

Hate for you to tear out the heater core when its something like that!!

Re: why does my car keep eating batteries

And check your battery cables for corrosion, especially the positive cable where it attaches at the battery. The cables are known for corroding, I've had this happen in 5 different Pontiacs, even when only a few years old. It can be difficult or impossible to tell from inspecting the cable's ...

A zip tie did the trick, it's been good so far.
Did the exact same thing, zip tie, about a year ago. Had washer fluid dripping all over my shoes when putting the zip tie on, but oh well.

Re: Excessive power steering whine?

all 5 of my bonnevilles had some power steering noise, even when i knew the pumps were not malfunctioning or bad. i always put in lucas power steering stop leak, each time it has brought the whine down to an almost imperceptible level.

I also used the Lucas power steering additive. Its a little ...

Re: 93 sputtering, hesitation, loss of acceleration

Ive had the same problems twice, once was a dying fuel pump(it tested 17psi!) other time was worn out wires/plugs when I bought the car.

If that doesnt solve your problem, you might want to look for a weak coil or a vacuum leak.

Use any SL or SM-rated oil of your choice, oil alone should be just fine.

Ive thought about tearing mine down and figuring out why its messed up, but unplugging it stopped it from running all the time, so its stuck in the up position forever. I can live with it. :beerchug:

Re: Catastrophic Failure!

Just a question....

When you found the coolant low originally and re-filled it, was the engine warm or cold??

Remember to let the engine cool off a little before topping off coolant.
You can burn yourself with the rad cap, or crack the block/rad in extreme cases if you add cold water to a hot ...

The ICM ground was the ground I was referring to, not the ground on the fender.

I had the same problem over the summer, power loss when warm, rough idle too.

It was the ICM, the piece under the coils. Id clean the ground to the ICM, too.
