Trunk leak?

Post by 92BonnevilleSE »

I've got a trunk leak and was wondering if there was a common area around the trunk that leaked? The trunk carpet is mostly just wet on the driver's side. The weather stripping is brand new. Thanks

Could be the seal around the rear window or more likely, the seals under the tail light lenses. Another possibility is rust through where the wheel well meets the trunk floor. To find out for sure, strip everything out of the trunk down to the painted metal; climb inside, close the trunk lid and have a helper spray with a hose until you find the leak.

Also, check the top of the wheel wells. Many rust through there.

I'm 6'3" 200lbs and I can easily fit in the trunk.

I just took the backseat out so I could see better. I found out that the seal was pretty bad so resealed it and didn't notice anymore water leaks. It's raining right now so I'll check once it stops. Hopefully it's done!

My '97 is also leaking. Turns out that the seam sealer has let loose near the tail light housing.

A good way to see where it is leaking is to run a garden hose over the top of the car, put a light in the trunk and take a peek through the passthrough. That's how I found my problem.

My trunk leaks also. I'm pretty sure it gets in around the power antenna as the drain tube keeps slipping off. Take a look and make sure it's not that.

after putting some sealant around, I haven't noticed any leaks. My 92 doesn't have a power antenna. I did check the antenna though but it was fine.
