Re: Cam interrupter write-up
Ok, that's what I told him. Gave him Padgett's name. I didn't know if it needed to be more specific than that.

Cam interrupter write-up
Can someone let me know who did the JB-weld writeup for the cam interrupter? Another member from the w-body forums is having an issue with his L27'd olds and I gave him the writeup as a reference. Another member is writing some kind of "e-book" and would like to use the write-up and give credit to ...

Re: Excessive power steering whine?
My '96 always had a whine to it @206k. I always figured it was just a tired pump and did nothing to try and solve it because I didn't care.
I have had much better luck at noise control using ATF over P/S fluid. Also seems to smooth the power steering out a lot too. If you have P/S fluid in it now ...

It's running very rich if the cat is getting that hot, meaning it's not firing correctly. How does it run? How long has it been sitting without running?

Re: Average miles per tank, SSEi owners
I ended up getting a '93 Eclipse 2.0 n/a 5-speed. Mechanically great, physically a little beat up, but nothing that some time and hard work can't bring back to life. Got it + $300 cash for my car, which I think was fair. Around here high-mileage bonne's rarely fetch more than $1500, and the frame on ...

Re: Average miles per tank, SSEi owners
I was running the BP non-oxy for a little while, didn't make a difference. I've used everything from 91-93 octane, doesn't make a difference. I think i'll grab the scanner from work and pull some data and see how it looks.

Re: Average miles per tank, SSEi owners
Ok good deal, so it's not just mine.
I guess I'm almost on the high end of average, not bad for having 205k on it. I think I'm going to need to get something smaller though, it's getting too expensive for the amount of driving I do. I manage to put on several thousand miles a month, I need ...

Average miles per tank, SSEi owners
Last tank I got about 330 miles. That was using about 15 gallons, with maybe a 75/25 highway/city split. That works out to about 22 MPG. Not great.
Any ideas where to look? It runs great, no codes, new plugs wires ICM and fuel filter. It's always gotten about the same since I got it. Or am I just ...

Brake line diameter?
Off the top of anyone's head, do you know the diameter of the brake lines on a '97? Specifically, if it matters, it's the one that crosses over from the drivers side to the passenger side rubber line on the rear. It's a customer's car, and I wanted to get the part ordered in advance. I'm going to ...

Re: UPDATE! MISFIRES, SURGING, AND HESSITATIONS!
I believe the ICM grounds through the mounting plate. The screws just hold down the coils and sort of "pinch" the ICM in place, but the ICM actually grounds itself through the case and into the mounting plate, which then needs a good ground for everything to work properly.

Re: UPDATE! MISFIRES, SURGING, AND HESSITATIONS!
Try adding a ground to the mounting plate for the ICM.
Is there a factory ground there? If so check it and make sure it's connected, the ICM needs a really good ground to work correctly.

Re: Convert to center console shift?
You could. You'd need at least:
Console shift steering column with ignition lock cable assembly
Console shift cable from shifter to transmission
Floor shift assy. with console
Entire floor shift instrument panel
Custom wiring for shift lights and rear lighter
Duct work for rear ac vents

Good 3.8 info
Sorry if this has been posted before, but this site has a great article on rebuilding the 3800 series engines, with pictures and descriptions of the differences over the years.

Re: Vehicle Speed Sensor Questions
Well a quick search of identifix is looking more and more like a PCM issue than a transmission component issue. The stall is also odd.

Re: Vehicle Speed Sensor Questions
Sounds more like a tranny wiring issue. The range sensor is on top of the tranny kind of under the brake booster area, check the connections there. The other one, yea probably a VSS.
I find it a little odd that it happened at the same time, however.

Re: scan tool asks if car has IPC
My snap-on modis used to ask ALMOST the same question about some GM cars, except it would ask if it had a digital odometer. I'll bet that's what they mean by IPC. If you've got a digital odo, then hit yes, otherwise no. Try that.
Either way, it won't have any effect on the way it scans for PCM ...
