I have done a lot of work to the Bonny in the last year and I have her running very well. So now I am trying to figure out if the LIM gasket was replaced. Something was done with the upper intake manifold because it was replaced. My car is a 2002 made in October of 2001, but the date stamp on the manifold is 2004. The LIM gasket has a red colored tab or placement guide that is exposed on the passenger side of the engine. Does anyone know if the original LIM gaskets had this red tab/guide or is it likely a replacement ? I have seen pictures of replacement LIM gaskets with these colored tabs/guides.

Any information would be greatly appreciated. I do not have any information on the original owner and the dealership that sold and did some service on the car closed many years ago. I also contacted Pontiac directly to see if they had any information on the car and got no information from them.

Thanks for your help, so far no indications of UIM or LIM gasket failure on the car.

Steven

You should go to any GM dealer with your vin and they can tell you what service was done on the vehicle. If you find the manifold has the circle date stamps like the originals did but it's now a 2004, that may mean it's a GM replacement that was used. Hopefully they can see the summary of the parts used and help.

A good garage mechanic can probably look at the edges of the lower gasket and tell you as well if it has been changed.

Are you losing any coolant over a month?

are the LIM gaskets black (plastic) or silver (aluminum).

If they are silver then they have definitely been done. but if they are black hey may have been done, I did my moms car and they sold me plastic ones i dont think the aluminum ones were available at that time.

Thanks for the information. The LIM gasket looks black not silver, it does not look that old. I will check with the local chevy dealer with my VIN.

I am not losing any coolant, I am just trying to figure things out and think ahead to future repair needs now that I have completed the things I wanted to get done to have the Bonny running well.

Thanks for the help.

cool. if they are not leaking then i would not worry about it. Good tune up and trans filter/fluid are always a great idea if they have not been done recently.

Thanks again, it looks to me that the LIM is good for now.
