Hey guys, I just picked up a '97 Park Ave Ultra with 63k miles after missing my '95 so much for several years since I had it. I'd been watching craigslist for several years waiting for a low mileage series II L67 to show up, and my waiting finally paid off. I got most of the options, but HUD was one I'm lacking, that I'd like to add if it isn't too much trouble.
The Park Ave dash is split into two sections, the more forward of which (the black piece that contains the defrost grill) I believe housed the projector (correct me if I'm wrong). Besides the HUD projector and associated dash trim piece, is the car otherwise wired/ready for HUD? If I also buy the HUD height adjuster trim piece, which I assume is on the overhead console, will I have to run a new harness to it, or is it plug and play?

Re: Adding HUD to '97 PAU
My experience (with one exception) is that periphery wiring is not 'already there', so you will end up needing some or all of the harnesses. The core body harness should be the same, so the harness with the added wiring for the HUD should drop right in, but even that should be double checked.

The extra wires and connector will not be there. You can add the connector and splices.... However, by the time you have the interior apart that far,it is really easy to just change the whole chassis harness. This is what I did on the `96. Plus when you swap the chassis harness, you may be able pick up some additiobal features too.

Just find a PAU at the pick and pull and grab it there, or on ebay. Also, a few of the guys on regalgs.org have the whole units they sell for doing this swap into a regal out of a PAU

Re: Adding HUD to '97 PAU
hi, I am pretty sure the windshield has to be HUD compatible- it had a sticker on my 96 ssei and 92 GTP saying its for HUD

Re: Adding HUD to '97 PAU
The windshield isn't too big a deal, it gives a slight ghost image if it isn't HUD glass. I can barely notice it on the 96 GP with the HUD I added. By the way that car already had the wires in it, but I think that's because it has the DIC that the other GP's do not have.
