95 SE supercharged high idle, no 4th gear

Post by Glassman »

Hi I'm new to the board, I have a 95 SE supercharged that intermittently idles high and will hold rpm going down the road, and will also not shift into 4th gear. I'm thinking TPS, any input would be greatly appreciated, the car has about 191,xxx miles. Thanks

I don't have a service manual for the 95, but is the issue shifting into 4th also intermittent?

I had a problem with it going into 4th a couple times this summer, but it came out of it and was fine, didn't notice anything with idle then, it seems since I've had the idle problem now it won't go into 4 at all

It's possible that fixing the idle issue will fix the trans issue. Any SES light, can you get it scanned

Has the idle air control valve and throttle body butterfly plate been cleaned recently?

I haven't done anything to it other than replace the crank sensor 2 yrs ago when I bought it with 145,000 on it, it's my commuter vehicle, I put 120 a day on it, yes I can get it scanned, just haven't yet because I would have to take off work early, just thought I would throw it out on here to see what I could come up with.

Took the throttle body off, gasket was leaking, so it was sucking coolant. Hopefully that fixes it.

If it does, please post and say so, and edit the title of the post to include "solved." This helps those in the future searching similar problems. :beerchug:

I have recently and many times replaced the TPS and it usually fixes the problem. But the car in drive idles really high to the point it really wants to take off if you don't hold the brake down. It also will not shift in to over drive on the highway. I also replaced the throttle body gasket about a year ago. Should I try the Idle air control valve next? How does the car act if you unplug the TPS and the idle air control valve is bad?
