Battery heater help?

Hi all, since it's going down to the single digits here in nj I wanted to get a battery heater for my car but no idea what I'm looking for, what's a good brand? What's a good size, is 8 1/2 by 11 1/2 big enough for an average battery? And I don't wanna wait for it to ship so is there a place that I can go to and just buy it, that is the right size and good brand of course.

i've never heard of a battery heater, i'm right up here with you in ny and i've never needed anything to heat my battery

Well last week we had a full house for Christmas so after work I couldn't park in the garage as usual so I let it sit out in 20 degree weather and when I needed to move it the next day it certainly had a hard time starting, I know they sell engine block blanket heaters but they are like 300$ and since I just switched from 10-30 to 5-30 I'm not as worried about the engine but the battery it way more susceptible to the cold so that's why I'm looking for one

The 92-99 have batteries under the hood, the 00+ are under the back seat, where they stay a little warmer most of the time. I don't know much about battery heaters, but I'm sure someone here does.

Well I hope someone helps soon, on Friday it's supposed to be a high of 16 and a low of 7

Battery should have no problem cranking in 0 degree weather..

Yeah.. I think the issue here is the battery not the temperature. The car shouldn't have issues with 7 degrees. It might take a second or two longer to crank, but that's normal. Cold engines don't like being awoken from their slumber.

I have to agree, you shouldn't have any problems at zero. I have been there once at sub zero (barely), and sure the car cranked a bit slower, but I didn't feel in danger of being left behind either. But then again, I also try and run too much battery for the car.

Mine is start just fine at -15, might take a little extra but no issues.

Think it's time to save up for a new battery.

I'd spend the money to get the battery, charging system and starter checked/repaired. Having a car with a warm battery that won't start will really be painful. Most likely just a less than perfect electrical connection. I'd make sure all were shiny bright before going further.

Supposed to be -7 here in a few days with a wind chill of down around -15, I have never run an auxilary heater of any type before and have never had problems starting in the cold unless a bad battery was the issue. With a good battery you should have no problem starting the car with temps even a bit below 0.

The lowest I've had to operate the car this winter in was -7F. It started slow but fine. No block or battery heater and parked outside.

Had an HEI ignition module go out when it was -27*. Cranked "fast" enough was expecting it to start. Luckily it was at work. Got a ride home and was able to let the van set a week until it was "warm" enough to work on it. On the G10 could work on it sitting in the drivers seat or it'd probably been longer.

Still the all time record low for here. (Yeah, I hear those in MN and CAN laughing)

Seriously? U guys don't think it's the cold, that it's just a weak battery? Bc my moms 07 Avalon failed to start yesturdsy and today, but the hearty American war horse, my baby, started just fine and had to jump it both times. So u guys suggest getting a new battery?

It depends. A battery heater also requires you to plug it in, something that's unlikely in a parking ramp.

When it's below zero, yeah it's not going to start right up. Might not be a bad idea to have your battery tested, see how many cold cranking amps it's still putting out.

My car has been starting just fine here when it's been this cold. Granted the G8's battery is in the trunk, but still plenty cold back there.

Just know that when it is crazy cold like this, vehicles will take longer to start and will crank slower. Yesterday morning my truck rolled over slow and took a bit longer to fire up, when it did fire it died after a second. Kit the key again and it rolled over slow again but fired up fine and stayed running no problem. It was now slow to where I thought it wouldn't start, just slower then normal due to the cold.
