What did you do to your car today?

Ordered a new cabin air filter; also performed an oil change and replaced the air filter.

Finally did the oil change and washed it only to have it get rained on.

Starting to build the spring cart for it too. New filters, need a new horn, power steering fluid, and other misc odds and ends. I need to get bulbs to repair some of the interior lighting that has gone out.

Today is oil change day, replace the cabin filter and then get to work on my boat again...yay! no more snow!

No money for fresh tires to mount on the 17" OEM Chrome wheels, so I just had the older all-seasons on steels put back on that I got with the car. Also (more importantly) had an alignment done so the all-seasons wouldn't get completely wrecked like the winters.

Back on the road and a much more comfortable ride than the Camaro.

I programmed the GTO cluster. Now I have a shift light, and it says HSV on the startup screen.

i had to change the clutch, slave, and a few other odds and ends on the Camaro this weekend. frustrated at how a 4 hour job ended up killing my entire weekend, but it's done now.

Spent the middle of the day yesterday doing the front brakes and rotors on the Bonneville. It's been a while. The 2nd side took me 1/4 of the time it took me to do the 1st side. Haha. Always the way.

Drilled and slotted Powerstop rotors and performance pads. They look nice and car stops more confidently without the shaking I was getting previously. Job done.

Today I installed a brand new steering wheel in the STS. A friend of mine constantly reminded me that it really isn't a Cadillac unless the steering wheel has some wood on it. Not exactly sure why mine didn't have this since I have wood trim elsewhere throughout the car. The dealer tells me both wheels were options for my car so I suppose it was just how it was ordered. Regardless, it has a nice shiny new wheel now!

So on Wednesday my car suddenly starts making a terrible sound when braking as I'm heading back to the office from getting lunch.

Turns out the bolts holding my caliper on worked their way loose with one of them falling out onto the road (I went back and found it later after borrowing a co-worker's car) and my brake caliper was leaning against my wheel and scraping the inside of it.

Wonderful.

Got it up on the jack in the parking lot at work, got the wheel off, put the bolts back in, tightened them as much as humanly possible and will be adding fricking Locktite to them as soon as I'm able and for every brake job afterwards.

The good news is that it looks like a "no harm done" scenario. Car seems to be perfectly fine and the wheel was just a steel wheel so the scraped inside was no big deal.

I love when my workdays are broken up by several hours of panicky stress.

Time for another oil change..that trip to TX put me down to 25% and the pressure gauge is reading a bit lower than normal, so I'm thinking the oil is definitely due. On a positive note, after discovering that the windshield leaked like a sieve, I found a really great glass guy that replaced the windshield....he told me that the adhesive was holding, it was the paint that wasn't ...so he sanded primed and painted the sealing surfaces for me and my windshield is spiffy again ( other than that stripe of leftover duct tape adhesive I have to clean up...so happy to have solved my water intrusion issue...

Oh, and more work on the boat. I got it fired up, but the new starter sticks in the down position, so I need to pull the bendix apart and see if there is a burr that's holding it in place. Works great otherwise...turns the motor over so much faster than the old one.

Mobil 1 Synthetic finally went on sale, so I got two jugs and used one for a much needed oil change on the Bonneville.

Also removed the pin striping on the driver's side of the car (but not the passenger's yet) and played around with touch up paint.

The big news though is that I finally put on my Boat Roller mount! I just took the car out for a honk and it definitely felt tighter compared to the stock mount. Very happy with the replacement/upgrade! (Thanks Andrew!)

Today I replaced the struts in the DTS again. They were done only 11,000km ago. Fortunately they were warrantied (I used Monroe Quick Struts). The first set were not assembled correctly and I've been dealing with problems ever since. I doubt that Monroe will cover the cost of an alignment though. I also did an oil change. Just getting it ready to put into storage for the summer.

Sealed a hole in the bezel for my blower motor that I caused while replacing it and reassembled the interior trim in the passenger foot well.

Also replaced the button cluster in the dash as my Reset button wasn't working. Works great now and wow is the main dash bezel ever easy to remove!

I gutted the window regulator on the Passat. A cable had snapped and the window fell into the door. So I zip tied it in place till I feel like fixing it. Probably never because I don’t use the rear windows anyway.

Full tank of gas at 20 mpg. Not bad given everything.

In the G35 I was able to pull 25 mpg @ 80 with all the windows down coming back from the beach last weekend. Not too bad.

Right side of the exhaust came apart at the y-joint. Was able to make it home and repair the problem. I thought the exhaust sounded louder over the last couple of days, so.....I guess I should've looked sooner. Oh well.

Finished detailing the DTS today, set the tire pressures, added fuel stabilizer and filled it up, put on a new set of wiper blades, changed the cabin air filter and had an alignment done (yesterday).

Finally, tomorrow it goes into storage for the summer and I'm picking up my Bonneville!

Dropped it off at the Transmission place in town on Tuesday night...

I'm in the most precarious financial position I have ever been in my entire life and the Bonneville decided Sunday was the perfect time to let the transmission start to fall apart. (kidding, the car isn't vindictive...or is it?)

I got the call yesterday. Sounds like it's the torque converter falling apart and the whole job is going to cost me between 2-3k CDN.

On the plus side, there's not much left on the car to fix after this and the side mirror. It'll be onto cosmetics and upgrades should finances eventually permit.

Picked up the Bonneville yesterday from the transmission shop. They found a misfire in addition to a full rebuild so the bill was just shy of 4k Canadian w/tax (around 2800 US).

They also put the bolt on the Boat Roller Mount on upside down like a bunch of noobs. I mean, I get that it's not an OEM mount, but I don't think a metal nut against the frame and 2-3 inches of bolt hanging underneath the car makes any logical sense, do you?

I fixed it when I got home as I immediately noticed the added vibrations when driving. I hope they were better at the transmission internals than they were at figuring out this oh-so-complicated piece of hardware.
