Re: What did you do to your car today?
I had an idiot moment the last time the muffler fell off. I have a muffler that's about a foot too long for the 96 on there and I had it on there pretty good but it was sticking out due to the position of the Y pipe. I swapped them between sides and now they both fit, but of course it leaks now.

Replaced the front brake hoses and flushed the whole system. Gotta cash in on those rare 50° days in the middle of Winter!

Just got back from having new "Wingfoots" "installed". Went to 235/60r16. Only driven them 2 miles so far. Can't wait to "see" how they handle on the road. Even made it a "tad" easier to enter and exit the car, if you know what I mean for an old man.

One of my 9012's went out so I swapped in a 9006 I had on hand. Haven't done the other side yet because laziness. Also probably put flat spots on my tires because I had somebody make a last second decision on the freeway and they locked up on me at about 60mph.

Re: What did you do to your car today?
On the '96? Aren't those sealed beams? My '95 burned thru a passenger low beam about once every 3 months. Had to have been something in the wiring. But they were $20 or $25 a pop at walmart, not exactly in the high school/ college kid budget.haro1225 wrote:One of my 9012's went out so I swapped in a 9006 I had on hand.

Somebody modified the sealed beam assemblies to accept a 9006. So I put the 9012's I had from before I did my retro.

Re: What did you do to your car today?
I did that to my Camaro, it's basically the exact same bulb inside as the 9005/9006 but the housing is glued to the bulb instead of the normal twist fit. The shoulder and seal are the same, the only difference is the lack of retaining tabs. I used RTV and rubber tape to hold the 9005/6 bulbs to the housing. I was going to epoxy retainer from another headlamp housing next time I have to change a bulb to make it 100% drop in, but then I learned about some LED projector thats roughly the same dimensions...

Re: What did you do to your car today?
I have to start this post by saying that I love this car!!That being said recently I had some very pricey decisions to make. The subframe needed replacing and the trany was slipping.I decided that I really hate the newer cars along with the high price tags that come along with them.I now have a rebuilt trany and rebuilt subrame along with other parts to freshen up the front end.The car drives great!!I know a lot of people would scoff at pouring money into a car this old,she is a 1993 SSEi,I have had a lot of years with this car and plan to have many more. This car came from Florida and has almost no rust anywhere, the engine has 215,000 miles and runs awesome,I baby my car.I love the fact that these engines are easy to work on,and are very reliable.I think they are the best engine that GM put out and the reliability factor proves it.That is all,,,,,,,,

Re: What did you do to your car today?
Over the warm weekend we had 2 weekends ago, I opened the trunk to look at the service parts label (was going to order touch up paint), and discovered that the carpet was very wet. There was about 2" of water in the spare tire well. I took everything out and dried it, then pulled the plugs out of the trunk lid (these (thanks anwisdom)), then put everything but the carpet (still drying) back in. Hopefully that works.
This past warm weekend, I polished and waxed the headlights (long overdue), then cleaned the outside a little.

Checked the tires, because I knew the front right one would be low. I now know it won't hold air for more than a day
(I can hear the air whistling out of it).
It hasn't moved since early January, and it shows. It will definitely make a visit to the shop this month: tires holding air are the first priority, and hopefully the 60+mph shake as well. I get my license in March and I plan to start driving to school every day.

Re: What did you do to your car today?
Re-installed my battery. My alternator went bad Tuesday night. I took my battery out and put it on trickle charger overnight. My alternator will be replaced under warranty, just need to go to the dealer after work and pick it up. Hopefully I can get it put in tonight.

Re: What did you do to your car today?
Tried to jump the 04 because the battery was dead for some reason, didn't succeed but I managed to paint and install the SPO grilles that I snagged from the junkyard. Then I changed the oil in my friend's Vibe for her, and then I took pictures of the 96. I think it may be time to let it go, gonna post it on CL and see if I get any interest.

Re: What did you do to your car today?
Found out that I have door water leaks last week. I took this weekend to inspect to see if i traced it to the correct spot.

These wouldn't cause leaks, would they??

Don't worry though, I got it all re-sealed up. I think the driver door is leaking too, and while I'm at it I might as well check the back ones too, but I think those are ok. Oh well, 1 down 3 to go!!

A little late to this but I reached the breaking point with the noisy bearing on the beater so I replaced it on Sunday. It was totally gone as in the hub was really loose. I guess it will help the resale value without a howling bearing.

Re: What did you do to your car today?
Somehow, the top nut on the strut cartridge came loose and the car was making all kinds of racket. Almost sounded like a broken axle. Fixed that last night and on that note it's officially for sale. Hoping I can make things work to get a different (aka better) winter/daily driver.

Re: What did you do to your car today?
A funny thing happened yesterday to my Bonnie on my way back from buying a serpentine belt for my old Eldo. I stopped a red light and I could smell burning rubber. I got about 1/4 mile down the road and bam, I now am driving a pre-power steering car. I drive home, popped the hood to see a snapped belt and a frozen alternator. I knew I had a spare alternator that came with the car so I figured this is a cheap fix. Well, upon installing the spare alt, I realized it wasn't for my car. I went back to the parts store, picked up a new alt and belt. So much for a cheap fix. I don't know what made me give the new alt a spin while I was at the store but I am glad I did because it rattled. The new parts are installed and Bonnie is back on the road. Now I am fixin to paint the new front calipers black then install them with the black zinc drilled/slotted rotors that are supposed to arrive today. I'll post pictures of that job. That's it for now.
