located cheap stock new fe5 suspension parts

Post by repnatl »

I've located these parts on gmpartseast.com so we don't have to look on ebay or the junkyard. Only thing I still can't find is the front strut tower brace but I've heard there wasn't any improvement from that so here are the front struts, springs, front and rear sway bar with brackets. Thank me later lol.

Front fe5 sway bar 30mm solid $115.30
Front fe5 struts $210.70 for 2
Front fe5 springs $210.70 for 2
Rear fe5 sway bar 22mm $113.31
Rear sway brackets $23.46 for 2

Front brackets are the same part # from the 03 ssei to 04 gxp only the rears need swapping. I've got a quote from coilsprings.com I think for around $450 for drop springs. Starting off with the sway bars first then I'm moving onto either the drop or fe5 springs.

What is the part number for the struts? I know I have done some very in depth searching for those struts and found none left anywhere and other members have looked too with no luck. I would love to see that they are indeed NOS FE5 struts but I bet they will just be a new strut that covers across the board.

2 different part # between fe2 and fe5 I only see the last numbers so here they are. Check that site just in case I looked up an 04 bonneville gxp

Fe5 047690
Fe1 and fe2 064781

It won't let me post the pic of the website and diagram but I've ordered several parts for my 06 srx through them that the dealer doesn't carry or willing to sell separate. If these are legit fe5 struts that are in stock I might just have become a hero on here lol. I've been searching for a few months and there are several wrecked gxps I found locally in Atlanta but he wants dealer price. Wanted to charge me $200 for the used front sway bar same for the rear and wants $600 for the taillights. Same guy wanted $500 for the gxp calipers and rotors. Zzp sells the kit for that price new but I sourced all my front gxp setup on rockauto.com for less than $300 and had the braided lines made locally.

Can I use my stock ssei springs with the fe5 struts since the engine weight is still lower than the nstar?

You could, but the springs have a better rate for handling as well. I can't imagine the 3800 is much lighter than the N* though, the northstar is alum block/heads, 3800 is all iron.

EDIT: From a quick google, it looks like the 3800 is +/-50 lbs heavier than the N*...

So..... I called the people at gmpartseast.com to ask about these parts and not surprisingly, I was told the same thing that pretty much everyone else has found. These are out of production and there is no stock. The FE5 struts are long gone (didn't ask about the other parts). This site is actually associated with www.gmpartsgiant.com. When I called, they said that I needed to provide them with the entire part number (first two digits on gmpartseast.com are blanked out). They apologized for the outdated site information and referred me to the other site to obtain the full 8 digit number. They have no access to parts beyond what any other GM dealer has. If you can't get them at any other dealer, you can't get them here either.

Well *dang* so basically there isn't any real suspension upgrade as far as struts at least have bilsteins available. The bonneville is the bastard step son of pontiac lol. I'm looking Into a different platform to possibly upgrade anyway. Not going to put autozone struts on they are worthless. Thanks for looking it up for all of us

Sorry about the bad news. I was really hoping for a different outcome myself. Mine are okay right now, but sooner or later I'm going to be in the same position as everyone else who's looking. I'm really not looking forward to the day I have to put in replacements!

Looks like the site also has a lot of rust repair parts including the dreaded gas door panel!

Yeah true lol. Any suggestions on good upgraded struts? I'll probably order quick struts because I'm getting some popping on the front driver side the spring is moving on the strut on turns and it's popping probably a bad strut mount.

GM does have an ACDelco strut/spring assembly that does show as available. They are listed for the Bonneville and LeSabre so they may not have exactly the same ride as your originals but hopefully shouldn't have the same ride height issues of the Monroe equivalent.
