GXP replacement wheels

Post by NashvilleGXP243 »

I'll be looking to replace my GXP's wheels in the near future. My car's 2 previous owners were women, and I think they scraped every curb where this car once resided. I have deep scratches in the paint, and some nice gouges on the spokes on every wheel. Tire Rack has some good looking wheels at some good prices, but I want to make sure the back spacing is right as I intend to keep the factory size and width. I prefer polished aluminum, not black, as is the trend nowadays. I know OEM wheels are pricey, so any help in wheel selection would be appreciated.

OEM wheels are 18x8

5 x 115mm bolt pattern

51mm offset (I believe).

Depending on whether you can part with them for a little while, Detroit Wheel & Tire can repair these to a factory new finish. I've used them on several occasions and have always been very pleased with their work.

If you are very set on replacement I say be very picky with what wheels you choose, I have only seen one or two wheels on a GXP that actually looked better then the factory GXP wheels.

Thanks for the replies. As for me having my wheels being sent off, that's a no go. This is my daily driver, and only car.

That's a matter of opinion especially given the wide variety of different wheels available.
That said, I repaired my own in a weekend and they look as good as new.

I think you'll find you're in the minority on this one. Most (myself included), think that the GXP wheel is one of the better looking GM OEM wheels out there given the size (18"). 17" SS/ZR1 wheels are hawt too, but who is putting 17" on performance cars anymore? The Camaro 20's are also a popular choice also.

I don't mind being in the minority. I'm use to it here. I sure don't see anything special about 'em but hey, that's me.
I didn't realize we were limiting the choices to OEM GM either tho. In that regard they're not bad. And I'm not saying they're bad at all. Just better looking wheels out there.

I typically don't care for aftermarket wheels in general but that too is just me. I hate seeing the same wheels on a Corvette as say a honda civic that aren't the greatest to begin with and don't "fit" the vehicle in terms of "personality". It just screams "I bought these at Discount Tire on special just to buy something different than the cool OEM wheels..."

Some are ok, but in general, many, like myself like to upgrade to other wheels in GM's portfolio that fit the vehicle in terms of that "personality". You did (keep it GM)... You put swoopies on a GXP.

GXP wheels are the best OEM option, but far from the BEST option. They're still a little small at 18".

Ryan with the maroon 04+ GTP did a repair on his GXP wheels and they came out quite nicely.

Mine weren't horribly bad and turned out really good.
I like the swoopies better but I can't say they would've been my top choice either. They came with the car.
I'm not saying keeping them GM wouldn't be preferable and I don't have any particular wheel in mind I'd go with on this car over the what I currently have tho there are some really nice aftermarkets that would look good on it.
