Some Shots of the Regal

Post by bs009 »

Cleaned up the Regal over this last weekend and went out for a bit of a cruise. Thought I'd post some shots.

I had it parked for the majority of the winter, but it seems like it was all for naught as it's starting to become another casualty of Michigan's salt.

I uncovered a dirty little secret. It seems that the rear strut towers are starting to rust through now. I pulled a pretty large chunk of rust out of the inside of the trunk so the car is living on borrowed time now. Needless to say, the paint isn't great and parts of the body are rusting through, and the interior could be better so I'm currently looking around for a replacement.

Sooo I may be parting this car out in the near future...

That's a real shame. It still looks good on the outside.

Love the plate!

I will try to get some photos of the strut towers when I get a chance. It's not terrible now, but it's only a matter of time before the struts will poke through the trunk.

That car looks really good, but that would involve pulling the entire drivetrain and also no leather/heated seats.

I really don't want to play with restoring a structural component that is so hard to get to.

Thanks for looking out! Though if I had to transplant everything it would have to be a white or blue Regal with a decent shell and a nice interior with heated seats. I'm spoiled for life now lol.

I'm thinking the replacement will have to be a manual though if I have to spend decent money on it. I'm looking at new Focus ST hatchbacks and also Subaru WRX Hatchback's. I'm still weighing my options though.

I've been a subaru guy my whole life but I'm not too keen on the new style. Its like a combination of a civic SI and and Evo. The 04 style I love. I'd go with the focus. I've been wanting one myself and I've heard a lot of good things about them

I'm probably just gonna jump ship altogether. I test drove a Focus ST yesterday and I was pretty impressed. Tomorrow I'll be checking out a WRX too.

If I can find a Regal in good enough shape though, I'd probably consider swapping everything over. I would really like to get something with a stick though that I could DD even in the winter. That's one of the main motivators for the WRX and Focus ST. I've always got the GP for my RWD summer/project car.

Work is consuming a lot of my time so I don't have much left to work on cars. Because of that I really don't want another project. In fact, I will be getting rid of all of my extra cars pretty soon here.

I like those wheels. They look like or similar to ones I was considering after I busted the white RX-8 wheels I had. Katana GTM I think was the wheel. I decided against it after seeing some other pictures online where the spokes of the wheel seemed to be convex and curve out past the tire and I didn't want that. But those look pretty good there.

Fwiw, I've decide to hang on the Regal for a while longer while I finish up the Grand Prix. In the meantime though I'm going to find a way to weld some braces onto the rear strut tower bars and fix the little things that have been bothering me so much.

Also forget that I never posted pics of the new stereo I put in it. I dumped my old POS JVC unit that I had in there before and opted for a Parrot Asteroid Smart. This is complete with steering wheel controls!

It runs on an Android Operating System so basically I can root it and install whatever I want on it. Right now though I'm going to keep using it as is though. It's default OS isn't too bad. The maps are also very useful and sound quality is pretty good too.
