Scandinavian Flick, anyone else tried?

Post by arrowhead2001 »

Living in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, I grew up dreaming about that moment when I got my first car and drove my first winter. For me, that is this year. After a bit of frustration, I finally heard about this technique and decided to give it a try. Sure enough, the good old flick works on my car, even with brand new all season Goodyear rubber. It's so fun to drift in a front wheel drive simply because once you put in all that work to figure it out, it makes it 10x as rewarding. I've got it down pat now, and can take corners much faster (obviously I take no risks and do such maneuvers in abandoned parking lots and empty streets). I hope this is the appropriate section, I'm a newbie. Anyone else put a little "excitement" into their winter driving?

When it snows here yes but we've only had one good snow this year. :( i find that the stability in the 2000 makes it kind of hard though, the 88 however is great at it.

I bet a good thousand of the miles registered in the odometer on my car are sideways. Your e-brake is your friend.

Mine's an SLE, so I don't believe I have stability control. I gave it the E-Brake treatment today, it works every time if the swedespeed method fails.

Couldn't disable stability on the GXP, only traction control. No sideways.

I have also used weight transfer with the brakes in the dry. The PA usually does sideways on its own in low traction situations with enough speed, and it is very easy to pull out of it too.

On a GXP or SSEi you can unplug the yaw sensor behind the back seat on the drivers side.

The 96 will go about wherever you want. The 01 had stabiliwhack, but even still could be fun. I still prefer RWD (my G8) for sideways fun. In snow or dry. But if I have it my way it won't see snow again.

Hell, once you get used to the weight difference, even our Ranger at work is fun to slide around in on snow.

FWD to me is incredibly dull and boring in all driving conditions, especially winter. Sometimes I wish I had some snow tires for the Cutlass, that thing would be a blast in the snow!

I can get more ridiculous angles with FWD and recover than you can with RWD. It may not be "real" drifting, but it sure is fun. And people stare.

I love my G8 in fresh snow, with snow tires. I don't want to ever subjugate myself to FWD for my DD again...
