Solid Camshaft?
Are there any aftermarket companies that make a solid camshaft for the Series 1 L67?

Is this going in a FWD bonneville?

Re: Solid Camshaft?
Do you really want a solid cam and lifter in a FWD application though? You have to check valve lash alot. PITA on FWD if you ask me.

Re: Solid Camshaft?
Oh, I thought you meant "solid", as in "decent". I wouldn't want to try a solid lifter design. Everybody went hydraulic for a reason.

Re: Solid Camshaft?
Yeah we will have to get some clarification here lol. I would have said "good" not "solid".

Re: Solid Camshaft?
It would be absolutely worthless on any modern engine, let alone the Series I. The M62 already runs out of breath at the top-end, and the whole point behind a solid roller is to not lose valve lash due to the lifters "bleeding down" at high RPM, and they're not very streetable.

Re: Solid Camshaft?
Having to adjust the rockers would be a PITA, but the power gains from a solid lifter cam would be tremendous. I am not going to do this to my FWD bonneville, I just needed some information in case I get a bright idea to put this motor in something else.

And the power gains from a regular cam, proper tune, etc etc would be just as good. Do you have any pics of any of this stuff you work on?

Power gains would be 'tremendous' if you had a 600hp corvette V8. You'd get maybe 10% and have to make adjustments every 3k miles.
My S2 would still be faster

Re: Solid Camshaft?
Now days you can make just as much power with a hydraulic cam as a solid. It doesn't matter what it's going into, that engine still has the same limitations.

There is only ONE L67, everything else is just a series 2 and/or lame-sauce.MattStrike wrote:NOT_aerosmith wrote:Having to adjust the rockers would be a PITA, but the power gains from a solid lifter cam would be tremendous. Re: Solid Camshaft?
I know that you are referring to the Series I L67, but how can you say that when the Series II is absolutely a superior engine? That's like saying a gen III small block chevy is better then an LS1.... (talking stock for stock here, the lines begin to blur when heavily modded... not so much on the S1 vs S2 L67 though)NOT_aerosmith wrote:There is only ONE L67, everything else is just a series 2 and/or lame-sauce.MattStrike wrote:NOT_aerosmith wrote:Having to adjust the rockers would be a PITA, but the power gains from a solid lifter cam would be tremendous. Yup.... check out the list. No Series 1 will come close without serious (and expensive/custom) modification.

Re: Solid Camshaft?
A cam would put willwren in the mid-low 13's, tops. That would beat most of the cars on this forum, but A.) Bill is never gonna do that, and B.) that wouldn't move him down the list much.
To the OP: The series I is a good engine, and has benefits that the Series II doesn't. Bill chooses to run the Series I because he has a great, rust-free car and he prefers the massive torque and the whole "dare to be different" attitude of the car.
Don't be such a hater. Bill doesn't hate the Series II, hell, he ported a supercharger for my car, among many other Series II owners, including harofreak00, Pontiac Dad, silverbullet, etc. He just hasn't chosen to buy and mod one for himself yet, for whatever reasons. Will he? Not sure, but it would be an excellent car if he did.

The 90s Bonnevilles don't have the common problems the 00+ seem to have and they are lighter.
