Is there any truth to them? I've got a friend that says it helps tremendously, and another that swears its useless.

On a semi related note, is gas with 10% ethanol ok to put in? The pumps where I go have this and I noticed its a higher octane rating, which is really enticing, but I've been worried it could wreak my engine. What gives?

It depends on the additive. Seafoam is a decent product and some others. Some, like octane boosters, do little, like .1 higher. What's the point of that?

Ethanol is fine to use, though MPG tends to suffer a little because of the lower energy content. Cars have been designed to handle it for twenty+ years. But regardless of ethanol content, you need to be using 91 or higher octane in your SSEi. It sounds like you run lower octane stuff, judging by your comments.

10% ethenal (E10) is noting to wory about. it makes emissions burn cleaner.. it acutally makes the Octain rating slightly higher... for example E85 is ~100 octain.. now your car cant run E85 but E10 is fine.. COlorado (where i live) and other states have that for cleaner emissions and like stated above you will get 1-2mpg lower with E10. I wouldnt run anything with more then 10% ethenal.

As for Additives these are very good proven products. dont waste your time with other stuff, most of it is a gimick.
BG 44K (Fuel injection cleaner every ~30-50K miles)
Seafoam (engine cleaner and fuel system cleaner)
GM Top engine clean (cleans heads, intake manfiolds, valves ect...) <--- SMOKES LIKE CRAZY WHILE ITS CLEANING SO DO OUTSIDE IN THE OPEN

The E10 at the station is rated at either 90 or 91 octane, I cant remember. Ill definitely start putting that in my car, though, thanks!

Also, many rave about Techron for its cleaning power. Seafoam is great, although I am coming to accept that it can be harsh as well.

If it's really bad, you plan to abuse it while using the product, and plan on doing a tune up after? Seafoam!
If you just want to clean out the works gently but effectively? Techron!
