Re: Trunk seal adhesive
Well folks, she's gone to serve yet another master. Someone will be getting a good Christmas gift. FWIW, the 3M glue worked, I was impatient waiting for it to cure. I went out the next AM, and the weatherseal would not budge. I found a wing mount bolt that turned about a 1/4 turn and had rust on the ...

Trunk seal adhesive
What kind of infernal goo does one use to glue the trunk seal down? Not sure what factory used, local leak detector guy used silicone, I tried 3M weatherstrip adhesive black. None seem to get quite the bite I am looking for.

Re: Left rear Window will not operate
This repair was not done in "tight confines". I actually pulled the whole harness out of the door and took it inside to the workbench. Pix were taken with harness on the hood of the car. I also cleaned up the taping along the harness that had come loose over time. Lastly, the door molding ...

Re: Left rear Window will not operate
Wish I had thought of that, replaceable link, brilliant. I plan on selling the car. Will disclose the repair to the new owner as well as a warning in case one of the other three doors go. I might actually go back into this and correct it. I prefer twist and solder personally, but needed to get this ...

BINGO!
Note, before you go out and buy a new window motor, apparently Pontiac did not learn their lesson on the 2001 Bonneville, same problem as my 2006 Torrent. I swapped in the new AC Delco window motor, hit the switch, NADA. Cussed for a few minutes then pulled out the multi-meter and began ...

Re: GM Redesign of Strut Mount Bearing
OK, does one have to grease the rubber part of the bearing before install? As mentioned in another post, I just installed Readymount Gabriels on my Bonne and the rubber is grabbing on the mounting plate as the wheels are turned lock to lock. I figure it's just the paint wearing off the metal plate ...

I also went around measuring random Bonn's in my town. 28 1/2 - 28 3/4 most cars, SE's and SLE's. I don't see a lot of SSEi's around. Front and back same measurement, ground through centercap to wheel opening lip.

Re: The go-to thread for 2000+ strut replacement updated 4-5
OK,three weeks after installing the VIN correct quickstruts from Gabriel. Front end is still at 29 1/4, lower, but not quite there. Shimmy is gone, not sure if the strut height change, the CV axle or the alignment did the job, but at WOT under load and coming off the apex, no shudder in the wheel ...

Funny, mine had both the service theft and check gas cap messages, replaced gas cap, both went off. Was someone stealing my gas and I didn't know it?

Re: How long did your struts last?
Careful with the quick strut assemblies, save your springs if not broken. Ride height has been an issue for the one size fits all struts.
Also, the new rubber bushings atop these creak, any suggestions?

Left rear Window will not operate
Key in accessory position, I have 12.6 vDC on one terminal and ~3.4 vDC+/- on the other with the ground clip on the door frame when the rear window button is pushed forward, voltages reverse when pushed backwards. I can hear the relay clicking in the module. Appears that both the switches and the ...

Re: The go-to thread for 2000+ strut replacement updated 4-5
As creepy as it might sound, I've been measuring random Bonnevilles around town, and have found that 28-5/8"-28-3/4 seems around average. Same measurement front and back. We'll see how the replacement struts do for ride height. I provided my VIN to Gabriel and they are working on the issue. At least ...

Re: Strut replacement, more information added
nos4 - bought the only ones listed on Suspension Unlimited at the time. I disposed of the originals figuring the springs would settle. There were also a couple threads about spring breaking on the GM series of this type. Looked like a universal application, but, live and learn. I will say that ...

OK, here are the images of my ride with Gabriel 57051 quick struts.

The front end is roughly an inch to an inch and a quarter higher than the rear, giving a reverse rake on the body.

Re: Front end wobble
Hypothesis: - Front end ride height is high because this strut also shows fitment for a Cadillac(Seville, Deville) and Olds Aurora. Hmmm, heavier car, with two extra cast iron cylinders, maybe the springs are rated for that and is jacking up the front.

Re: coolant flush
A coolant flush is very easy. There is a write up in Techinfo if I'm not mistaken. To ease burping, park somewhere where the nose will be slightly elevated, like a driveway etc. It really isn't a tough process.

Re: Shudder/vibration at launch acceleration
OK folks, I have the same issue with Gabriel 57051 Quick Struts. I had them put on this weekend, and aligned. Ride height to the top of the fender wheel arch is 29 5/8". Gabriel tech assistance indicates it should be around 28. I also have shudder on acceleration, worse cornering, worst on left ...

Re: Front end wobble
OK, just had Gabriel Quick struts (G57051) installed this weekend and alignment done. Front end rose about 1"-1.5" and now I have the aformentioned wobble when applying power from the apex off on turns. No wobble on entry, just when applying the power. Seems worse on left handers, and I can get some ...
