Ding, ding, ding, we have a winner! No wonder I couldn't find it - had to crawl underneath with a flashlight, and it's the car's not too far off the ground. But there's actually clearance to snap it in!
Thanks!

Re: Underhood shots request
Yeah, but it just looks weird. Wrapped around the reservoir just looks so... shade-tree.
One last ID request: single wire male connector, passenger side, by firewall. Has a two-foot or so extension, only comes out of the harness a couple inches by the bottom of the engine. No idea what it's for ...

Re: Underhood shots request
Andrew, those photos both confirmed some of the assumptions I made and gave direction where I was baffled. I mean seriously -- wrapping the cruise control cable around the master cylinder? That was an actual design decision?
Thanks. I should be good from here.

Underhood shots request
Finally putting the SSEi back together after nearly two years, and I'm finding it tricky to route some things -- throttle cables, vacuum hoses, the usual finicky details. It's nothing two minutes with a camera under the hood of any SSEi couldn't fix, but since I've got the only one in town, I'm ...

Re: Best Head Unit Out There
I've got a couple pics now - just the dash and the bass knob because I'm in the middle of an engine/trans transplant, so no power. It's been a while since I used Photobucket, though, and the site seems to be down. I'll post as soon as I figure something out.

Should be fine. 87 octane, car is new enough not to suffer from the degrading effects of ethanol on the old-style rubber between the tank and the combustion chamber. I run it in my 1998 Jeep V8 regularly.

Re: Brake upgrade
There should be a number of threads on this procedure available by searching, but basically the GXP front rotor/caliper swap is a straightforward upgrade for the SSEi. The brake lines are good as is, I believe, but the GXP caliper bolts need to be used. Hopefully someone who has actually done this ...

Re: Instrument cluster inoperable
Any more detail? The replacement SSEi I picked up had an instrument cluster that was gonzo - some lights, mostly errors and gibberish. I swapped in the cluster from my wrecked one, but if swapping the chip will give me the mileage accrued on the new car instead, that would be useful. Does the chip ...

Re: 2003 SSEi - Sunroof drain tubes
Just gonna second the request. I currently have the interior pretty well gutted, and the passenger front drain hose is currently spliced; replacement would be preferable, but finding where it is attached at the bottom led nowhere. I briefly had hopes that removing the glovebox would reveal the end ...

Re: Seat removal when power not available...
Tried a drill battery first, but most likely didn't have a tight connection at the motor connector - not a hint of motor action. Thought at the time that since the seat had a 30 amp fuse, the 1.5 amp battery just didn't have enough oomph to turn it. Just kept working through iterations until I had a ...

Seat removal when power not available...
Ran into this when stripping my 2001 - after gutting the engine compartment, I started on the interior, then realized I had stupidly left the front seats in the rearward position, blocking that one bolt. What to do?

Re: Brake, ABS, and Traction light all on Code 1040
Good catch. Those three bolts tighten the three harness blocks to the fuse block, if they are loose enough there could be weak or intermittent connections from the harness to the fuse block.

Powerstop GXP kit?
I've been thinking about the GXP brake upgrade for my SSEi (currently being rejuvenated in a 2000 version after a drunk piled into the 2001 while it was parked in front of my house) for a few years now, and might pull the trigger on Powerstop's Z23 version on RockAuto.

Re: Replaced All 4 Tranny/motor Mounts; Runs much better!
Checking Rock Auto, I find myself getting confused by the various possibilities. One motor mount listed, front right. Transmission mounts, they have rear left, front left, left, center, rear, and various solid or hydraulic versions. I'm using a boat roller for the usual suspect in front, I assume ...

Re: Will Chinese Firms Start Making Bonneville Exterior Part
You could be right. Western firms would have no interest in such a limited run, but the profit calculus is different when you're talking about this particular situation. There's no reason at all why Chinese companies should be aware of the interest level in these particular cars, but having been ...

Re: How to get to HVAC mode actuator to replace?
I had to replace a couple of those fairly recently. It was the biggest PITA repair I've done on that car yet.
I don't have any specific "this works" tips, having blocked the painful memories, but I believe I ended up using a very small ratchet at some point in the process.
