Re: New Glass.

I have been fooling with and working on cars for a long time, I'm older than dirt, and I'm pretty competent. Having said that, the work Darcy does makes me look like a rookie. If you haven't read any of his write ups on mods/work he has done, do a search. He is an artist, I wish I had the skill ...

Re: Cheap but good repaint?

I don't know that it was luck, I did a lot of research. I talked with the guy at Maaco about the general bad reputation that Maaco has and he was quite aware of it. He said the guy that owned the shop I went to, owned a few other Maaco shops in the Seattle metro area and that he was pretty anal ...

Re: Cheap but good repaint?

My daughter recently totaled her 2000 SSEi, I rebuilt it, mostly front end damage, replaced hood, fenders, etc. and had a quarter replaced. I was trying to keep it within the budget of what the insurance company gave her. The paint was the hardest part, shops wanted a fortune($3-4000.00) and to make ...

Re: Please help!? Died, now won't start.

Hate to be a naysayer, but $2300.00 installed with warranty for a Northstar, I think something is wrong, I doubt you could get a 3800 replaced for that price.

Re: What are some good brake pads for a 2005 Bonn. GXP ?

I have used the Akebono pads on every Bonneville I have owned and I've owned quite a few. I currently have them on my 05 GXP and I won't use anything else anymore.

Re: Brakemotive drilled and slotted rotors

I have used drilled & slotted rotors on a 98, 2000, 2002 SSEi and currently have them on my GXP, never had one crack. I use Akebono pads and have on every car, minimal dusting, better than any of the others I have used, Hawk, Raybestos, etc. I get the pads from Rock and got my last set of rotors ...

Re: Service air bag light

You have to get it scanned by either a dealer or a shop with a scanner. Our GXP had the air-bag light on for a while, it ended up being the impact sensor in the front bumper, which was a dealer-only fix, as they have to program it with a Tech II. Diagnostic fee was like $30, part/labor was like ...

Re: rough idle at start-up

This seems to be pretty common and has been attributed to a faulty ignition coil.

Re: Napa oil and filters

I am not disputing that you can run synthetics longer than normal, I am just saying the manufacturers and the oil companies do not recommend it and synthetics marketed as extended drain, specifically state that they are extended drain interval products. Mobil 1 has their gold top EDI oil as well as ...

Re: Napa oil and filters

Longer drain intervals is not really one of the typically advertised benefits of synthetic oil, there are some that specifically are formulated for extended drain intervals but it is not all synthetics. Pennzoil Ultra, Pennzoil's latest (and according to many on Bob The Oil Guys site) and greatest ...

Re: SSEi vs GXP

I have owned several of these cars, currently my daughter drives a 2000 SSEi and I had a 2002 SSEi and I enjoyed them both when I drove them. I currently drive an 05 GXP and every now and then I drive my daughters 2000 SSEi, it is tough for me to go back, the GXP, to me, is so much more refined and ...

Re: My MPG is gone to crap

It's the winter blend fuel. Makes mileage go to crap.

I wanna know is how you drive your GXP where you get anything better than 21 MPG. No matter how much we baby ours, it only gets 22 max.

This was my thought, my 2005 with 65000 miles got 23-24MPG once or twice, on a long trip just freeway ...

The "B" at the end of the part number just indicates bulk as opposed to retail boxed, same part just different packaging.

Re: 00+ Center Tail light up project FINISHED! *UPDATED W/ PICS*

Got some more info on those clips today.

As we know, they are pretty expensive. Alero’s have 7 of them that hold the appliqué on the trunk lid between the tail lights (along with two nuts). Every one of them is easily accessed from inside the trunk lid so they can be released without damaging them ...

Re: Black 40th

I had a black 40th SE Supercharged, but sold it last year. I have a 40th dealer brochure and it says that black cherry is the only available color, they must have changed their plans after the brochure was published. Perhaps initially it was only available in black cherry, that might account for the ...

Yes, she has quite a few ongoing appointments now with various health providers, she is 100 pounds soaking wet and the crash jarred her pretty good and her back is bothering her quite a bit. I have left it up to her about how to handle it, she is a pre-law student and had no problem immediately ...

Re: Ouch

The insurance adjuster was a real piece of work. The lawyers will end up working this out.

The car had 60,000 miles on it and had a pretty pampered life, my daughter took better care of it than I did and I'm pretty anal about it.

I would like to have several parts off the car, Intense CAI, GXP ...

Re: Ouch

S.48th & Park, right by the Tacoma Mall.

Not sure it was a Washington driver, he had a WDL but a home address of Valdosta, GA. He claimed it was not his fault but pretty clear that it was and his insurance company agreed that it was his fault.
