Re: Help me figure out this L36 engine noise.
Follow-up from three years later: Yes, that was the problem. Car still runs great. It's our spare car but we give it weekly driving. Very reliable.

Alternatively, you could just buy aftermarket clear ones on eBay. That's what I had on my `97.

Re: 1995 Pontiac Bonneville SE
Honestly, there are so many 92-99 Bonnevilles and related cars in junk yards for dirt cheap parts that I would totally not stay restricted to a 95 just because I had one for parts. Also, I think I've seen more Bonnevilles in Ohio than literally any other state I've ever been in. No idea why. If it ...

What is it that you want to know that is giving you trouble? Are you seriously asking how to upgrade a 10 gauge wire? If you want to upgrade a 10 gauge wire, you get a bigger wire and put it where the 10 gauge wire is.

Re: Bose/Monsoon-Hidden Qualities? Hear Me Out
I recently completed extremely similar work on our 2001 Grand Prix GT with Bose, which I believe shares the same head unit and trunk amplifier as similar year Bonnevilles with Bose.
Here's what I did:
-I designed a built a power-line filter for the head unit from a big choke coil that I hand-wound ...

Re: If You Needed a Replacement Vehicle...
When my `97 Bonneville SE daily driver got wrecked in late 2015, I replaced it with a 2005 Mercedes Benz S500 4Matic.
I'd say that my short list was either an S500 or S430 from either 2005 or 2006 specifically, just because they got a trim refresh before the W220 body style changed to the W221 in ...

Re: transmission problems..
Realistically, how much is a used trans and labor to R&R it going to cost? How far apart will that cost be from $2200 (USD) to rebuild? I think if I were faced with the same problem I'd do the rebuild if the rest of the car is in excellent condition. Otherwise I'd consider shopping for a very good ...

Re: Bose/Monsoon-Hidden Qualities? Hear Me Out
I found I could set the volume at 4 or max 5 bars for a very loud listening experience. I'm having trouble understanding what you mean with the various numbers you mention, and bars. I have a 2001 Bose-equipped Grand Prix GT, which I think is the identical system as the 2001 Bonneville with Bose ...

Re: Why Does The Press Hate on GM?
When my wife wrecked my `97 Bonneville in October 2015, I replaced it with a 2005 Mercedes Benz S500 4-matic. Last summer we also got a 2001 Grand Prix GT that we previously owned from 2003-2010 but sold to a neighbor when we got a minivan after we had kids. The neighbor gave me back the Grand Prix ...

Re: Engine Compartment
First, make sure you're cleaning a cool motor to avoid possibly cracking it from spraying water or engine cleaner on a hot motor. Take care not to spray directly on electrical components like the coils tho everything is pretty much water tight. I also never spray with force. I do like a clean ...

Pull the oil filler cap off while it's running; see if the noise changes.

Re: Aftermarket head unit
Well, it's possible to put in an aftermarket head unit and hook it to the Bose amp and speakers, but you'll need to buy a head unit that has front and rear line outputs, and then wire those correctly into the stock harness, which I can help you with, as I'm presently replacing components on a 2001 ...

Re: Aftermarket head unit
Do you have the Bose system? If you replace your head unit, you'll need to work out how you're going to drive your speakers, because with factory Bose your speakers are driven by a crappy OEM Bose amplifier. Your wiring harness from your stock head unit does not go straight to the speakers. Are you ...

Re: Gas Cap Door Broken
The spring on the door of my 97 Bonneville broke years ago, and I just let it go. The door closed but kind of stuck out maybe an extra 1/8 inch or so. Like everyone here said, a Pick-N-Pull style yard where you can either grab the spring and stuff it in your pocket, or get a complete door and spring ...
