transmission problems..

Post by blye »

Sigh... yet another issue on the 99 ssei
The transmission started doing this today:
http://tripleedgeperformance.com/No-Forward-Cold.html
"No Forward Cold, Neutrals at stops, Shudders on take off"

I remember when the car was a few years old it did this, and the solenoid valve(s) were replaced under warranty.
But I read there could be many other problems.
So my 18 yr old son says he really wants the car (I've had it since he was born!) So now I'm considering fixing it up.

What's the best option: replace accessible parts (solenoid valves, filter, etc) or just get a rebuild? Best place to get rebuild?

thanks

Fluid level was good, but color is dark red.
Transmission shop technician took it for a road test and said the clutch material is probably worn out.
Rebuild & labor is $3000+ ($CAD or about $2200 USD)

I see, maybe try some lucas trans fix and if that is no go, prob. better to get a used or new rebuilt one.

Realistically, how much is a used trans and labor to R&R it going to cost? How far apart will that cost be from $2200 (USD) to rebuild? I think if I were faced with the same problem I'd do the rebuild if the rest of the car is in excellent condition. Otherwise I'd consider shopping for a very good condition used car replacement. Used Bonnevilles are not very expensive cars. (Maintenance, on the other hand. . . )
