Gas Cap Door Broken

Post by stephenssei »

Hey guys, the door covering my gas cap recently broke. On further inspection the small spring holding the door closed; has broken completely off. I called advanced and they said they carry no such thing like it to fix it. Do you guys have quick fixes or solutions for me? Thanks!

I've heard of this before. Last time I got one of these for a friend at an auto wrecker. That's probably your best source. Full service wreckers won't likely take the time to talk to you about such a small, low-cost item but if you have a self-pull yard close by you should be okay.

Junkyard/pick and pull will probably be your best bet for a replacement.

The spring on the door of my 97 Bonneville broke years ago, and I just let it go. The door closed but kind of stuck out maybe an extra 1/8 inch or so. Like everyone here said, a Pick-N-Pull style yard where you can either grab the spring and stuff it in your pocket, or get a complete door and spring and buy it are probably your best bet. For oddball nuts and bolts and things, I just pocket those at the yard. Nobody honestly cares. Maybe go when you need to buy something more substantial like extra interior buttons and switches and wiring harness to make custom mods.

I went to the salvage yard years ago for the '92 I had and was double lucky. They had one the same color as my car and he didn't charge me for it. - BC
