Yes it can, but not easily.

Try this:

It can be done but anytime you add more horsepower, other parts will not last as long (i.e. Transmission).

Thanks awesome information!! That said I really enjoy my cars options-HUD, leather,Bose, sunroof, tilt, etc. Are these common options on the newer (02) style SSEI's? Any other benefits to the newer Bonnevilles?

I would keep the non-supercharged 3800 and enjoy the gas mileage and the fact that you can run regular fuel. The rest of your drive train was not designed to have a Supercharger bolted to it so I would not recommend it.

From what I've heard with years I've been on this forum, the best thing to do is buy an SSEi is you really want the supercharger. Or if you really want to keep the current car, swap the entire L67 drive train in there.

Leave the engine the way it is in your car and keep it maintained; and it will last a long time.

SSEi trims should have every option an SSE can have with maybe a couple exceptions.

You can "add a supercharger" in a sense but really it involves changing the heads and everything above it. That includes fuel rails, injectors, LIM, some sensors, heads, and you'll need a harmonic balancer (main pulley), idler pulley, and belt tensioner for the supercharger belt. You'd also have to get a tune for the PCM settings. ZZP has a kit that is more of a plug'n'play meant to easy install but it costs too much and limits future mods. But with these methods you can leave the engine in the car.

Ideally you should get an L67 engine and HD trans especially when the prices are very reasonable but obviously you'll need to pull it out of the car. I did my topswap for about $400-$500 two years ago and have no regrets (other than not installing headers while I was at). At the time I didn't have an engine puller otherwise I may have went the ideal route with a L67 and trans combo. Just do the research and decide what's best, easiest, or cheapest for you. Definitely check out the grand prix forums (local if you have one) and ask around. They pretty much have the same engine and transmission. A lot of GPs topswap and the GP forums usually have locals that can tune your PCM. The people on these forums seem to dog on topswapping more than it deserves. There really aren't that many differences between the engines and trans. The L67 does have beefier rods and pistons (but lower compression) and stronger differential in the trans. Other than that the difference aren't worth being concerned with unless you have a monster build in mind. That's not to say there are no risks but supercharging an L36 doesn't turn it into a glass engine.

Here's a thread I did a while back, I hope it answers some of your questions: viewtopic.php?f=12&t=25655&p=261478

All SSEi's had what your car has now, except in 2003 HUD became an option. Most have sunroofs, all have Bose (01 down) or Monsoon (02+) amp'd stereos, 03's could have XM, they all have full power driver's and passenger's seats, 00+ have memory seats, Driver Info Center's with Fuel Info, Oil Interval, Tire Pressure, etc, electronic climate control, etc.
