:helpsmilie: Hey guy's sometimes my voltage guage reads 14 to 14.5 at night under normal load (stereo, air, lights etc) other times 13.8. Is 14.5 too high? It just started doing this.

14.5 is perfect voltage while running. I usually see 14.9 while driving.

Doesn't the higher voltage come from the alternator running? I believe there's a voltage regulator on it that controls that... Correct?

If you just put your car into ACC mode, does the voltage look closer to 12V? Again, mine runs around 14.x when it's on.

Yes, when the key is turned to the run position it will show the actual voltage of the battery. When the engine is running it is showing what the alt/volt reg output is.

Did you read that off the gauge or a multimeter?

If it was the gauge, you may want to check with a multimeter at the battery and at other places in the car. Typically 97's don't run 14.5, many 97 owners complain about lacking voltage.

I have a 96 and it only reads 14 or so on the dash on cold mornings at start up or when the engine has a few rpms on it. at idle it dips a bit. For a more accurate reading, check it with a DMM at the battery.

Should be 12 with engine off. should go up one or two volts with the motor on but no loads on the system..then if you turn on the lights, blower motor, etc..it should dip a bit but should hold steady.

Off the cuff i would say that 14.5 doesnt sound odd to me..
