A grandson and I are attempting to replace the rear pads and rotors on the 2005 SE Bonneville. We have the driver side apart, but are unable to place the parking brake cable back onto the caliper (reman as we couldn't compress the old calipers). Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hope this finds everyone well and that everyone had a great turkey day.

Thanks! - BC

If you use 2 pairs of diagonal cutting pliers or use 2 pairs of vise grips or 1 vise grip w/ 1 pair diagonal cutting pliers--put some electrical tape on the blades to avoid nicking the cables-- you can easily retract the spring from the cable end.

It's way easier to disconnect the front cable from the intermediate cable roughly below the the 'B' under the driver's side of the car. Once these are apart (which isn't too difficult), the other cables become much easier to disconnect and reattach to the calipers. To separate the cables at this joint, there will be a small tab that needs to be bent out of the way to slide the cable end out of the connector. When you reassemble, be sure to bend the little tab back again. Unfortunately I don't think I have a picture but it is pretty easy to figure out once you look at it.

The youngest son and his buddy thought this was the best way to do it, but couldn’t figure out how to take the tension off the parking brake cable to undo the cables at the joint.

I couldn’t see how the youngest son and his buddy actually put the cables back on, but from the conversation if it wasn’t this way, it was pretty close to it.
I really appreciate the feedback from both. The car should be back on the road today. - BC

It was a royal pain in the ass. I had to do both rear calipers on both cars when I had the SSEi and the GXP, not too far apart, and it took me a good hour to get the first one. The last one took about 3 minutes, lol.
