I live in the AZ heat and have had nothing but problems keeping the Bonnie cool. I'm on my second radiator in the last 5 years. I would like to put an "oversized" radiator in it. I've done some searching and havn't had any luck finding something.
The raditor has sprung a small leak, so I need to replace it very soon. Any ideas??

Go to a radiator shop and tell them you want a 2 core rad. then see if they can find one that is close to your stock size rad. even if it's for a Ford or a Toyota. Who cares, the shop can mod. the rad. brackets to make it fit in your car. You just have to find a shop that is willing to work with you and find one that fits. That is what hot rodding is all about, take something from one car and make it work better than the stock part from(or on) your car.

A good radiator shop can also build a custom radiator.

I am concerned there may be some other problem. I do not know of any overheating issues with any of our other AZ members.

Befor you go and spend $$$ on a new over sized rad. check your cooling system. If it has dexacool get it out,and do a flush. check your thermostat and your fans.

there is one for the heavy duty cooling H bodies as well that's pretty *dang* thick as well. look for early 90s bonnevilles with RPO V08....

also...make sure you're at a 70/30 mix of GREEN coolant/water, you've got a good waterpump, no air in the system, and a 180 thermostat...that should help a bit..but also, it wouldn't hurt to have your fan temps lowered in your PCM as well to work with the thermostat.

As long as the dex-cool hasn't sludged, that's not part of this specific cooling problem. I'd check your stat, make sure the fans work, check for sludge before I did a radiator.

As he stated, this one has sprung a leak. You might want to go to at least a 180* thermostat, if not colder, and make sure your waterpump and the rest of your car is up to the demand.

We have almose 200k on Cindy's car and we can drive in the valley all day long and not get hot(even when its 110 outside) but get in the hills or mountains and her car gets hot even with an 180 therm. , when I say hot I mean it gets to 230 to 240 but not in the red on the temp. gauge. I would like to see the temp. stay about 210 to 215 at its hottest. My w/p is good(new) and so is my thermostat, this car has always done this so that is why I want a 2 core rad. and most people don't drive on the roads we drive on. Roads with up to 26% grades at up to 10,000 ft. in elevation, it makes your engine work hard and that makes a lot of heat. If I have to replace my rad. I'll get a 2 core and see if that helps with the temps.

Definately get the PCM tuned for hot temp operation. You will want to lower the fan turn-on temps, and as extra insurance, retard spark above a certain coolant temp. Yes, this will reduce power, but it will also keep KR down during load at those temps.

I didn't know you could do this.

Thanks

It has to be done through a tuner. Anything PCM related has to be done through either an HP Tuner or through a DHP. But yes, there are tables that modify the base spark based on coolant temp and ambient air temp.
