I'll admit it's apples and oranges when it comes to cars and big trucks and I admittedly don't know enough about the finer inner workings of today's emissions on cars. I just like the simplicity of the good old days of popping the hood and seeing an engine. Not a bunch of plumbing and foreign looking parts. lol
The big truck engine makers were forced to comply with standards they weren't even close to ready to comply with and it cost them and a lot of people A LOT of money. So much so that the biggest and best, IMHO anyway, decided to call it quits with trucks and stay with heavy equipment where such emissions standards aren't forced on them and they can do what they do best.
When egr coolers for example go out at a rate of 2 or 3 times in a year at a cost of roughly $4000- $5000 a pop not counting down time which in our world is huge , there's a serious problem. And it is power robbing emissions.
Emissions standards have done major financial damage to the trucking industry. And if you think this doesn't affect you, think again. A large portion of that cost gets passed down to you, the consumer, in the cost of goods you use every day. I don't come cheap. lol
