My LeSabre doesn't start anymore because the battery terminals have some serious corrosion on them (combination of a previous battery that leaked and water getting under the hood).

I don't think I can repair those, as I believe the corrosion has made it's way deep into the wires. A brief look under the hood over the weekend seems to show that some of that wiring goes towards the firewall.

I'm wondering if anyone has any diagrams or anything that can show me the routes for all the wires connected to the battery? I plan to replace the whole thing, and want to know how difficult it will be and where everything is going before I do this.

This is for my 1995 Buick LeSabre Custom, so probably anything early 90's for a LeSabre should work.

Thanks guys!!

So, it's pretty easy on this one. There is a power distro center in the top center of the firewall. One wire from the battery positive goes here. Replace with 6 guage or better. It routes around the A/C dryer under the shroud for the 'relay center' power distro.

Depending on the MY, that wire is also split with the altenator wire, replace with 8 guage or better. Most are routed across the front, past the ICM, and up to the altenator. I don't like that, flex point is too close to the battery terminal and mine follows the distro wire and drops out with the main harness, it's closer to the alt, less risk of it 'automatically' loosening itself under L67 torque..

The starter wire is usually seperate, on the 'add on' terminal, and should be at the bottom of the terminal stack on the battery. It's 4 guage or better for this one. Depending on the MY, this wire may also be shared to the altenator (in which case the power distro wire will be separate). It routes down along the A/C lines and the subframe weld lip, directly to the starter. This wire should also get a layer of wire guide wrap and zip tied at regular intervals to control where it can flex, fallout of doing this incorrectly results in wearing out the insulation as it rubs on whatever it touches, then spark!

Grounds - 4 gauge or better to the block, should be on a stud on the head or could be anywhere else on the block if somebody had a hangover at the assembly plant. 10 gauge or better to the body stud directly behind the battery, and 12 guage or better goes to a clip near the battery (by the A/C lines usually) that goes into a ground block inside the car (VATS is on it...).

For the double terminal positive, if you have issues with it loosening after the repairs, check out what I did in my build thread... It's gold plated.

A MattStrike symbol would be awesome!

If it helps, I could draw a schematic up for you.

Thank you, Matt! This information helps a lot, as I now have an idea of where everything runs. Doesn't seem as complex now.

If I can get to the junkyard sometime, I might take out the whole harness from a wrecker and just replace mine with it. This is going to be the first step for getting this car running again.

Matt, only if you have the time, you could make a schematic, because I know you have a lot of projects going on already.
