Heating System

Post by Pontiac4Life »

Hello,
Although I had my Bonneville GXP for 2 years now, I am new to this forum. I think this is a great thing and very informative and helpful.

Well, I seem to have a problem with my heating. We have now freezing temperatures at night in southern Indiana. When I drive with the AC on auto and the temp. on 72, the car gets nice and warm.
But after an hour or so of driving, ice cold air starts to blow out of the vents. And the only way to stop it seems to switch to the defrost mode and then back to auto.

Any ideas what that might be? Does someone has a similar problem?

Thank you very much, it is great to be here.

It sounds like an airmixb actuator messing up, but usually they work or they don't. Are all the vents the same when this happens? driver & pass?

Something similar to this occurs in my Bonneville w/ the auto climate control too. I think it is just a function of the ACC system though, and is supposed to happen. People who ride in the car comment on the vents blowing out cold air after awhile - however, it seems that they're just circulating air.

People will say to me "turn the heat on!!" because they are used to the different nature of MANUAL climate control - where the heat is BLASTING until you're hot, and then you turn it off or down. Auto Climate Control doesn't operate that crudely. It heats the car to the desired temperature, then throttles the fan and heating down and circulates the air - which to someone used to the manual type, could be confused as cold air coming from the vents. Just a thought - bc that's what it is in my car.

X2

I fully agree. Its simply a function of auto climate control.

I've noticed the same thing (or similar) and set the temp, vents, and fans manually and bypass "auto". The car seems to want to keep the car exactly at the set temp and the heat and AC cycle back and forth on auto.
