Window regulator?
So my windows are litterally the slowest thing in the world. I replaced a motor awhile ago thinking that was the problem but it made no change at all. I ignored it for a long time because they still worked but today i decided id look into regulators but apparently they don't exist..... I can get regulator guides but nothing else. Its been awhile since I had the door panel off so im a bit confused as to what kind of system moves the window now. Anyone have some insight?

Re: Window regulator?
It's a motor that pushes and pulls a plastic tape to move the center guide and that guide pushes the window up/down. The tape slides through a steel track, that track gets rusty over time and causes the tape/guide to bind. Also the forward and rearward guides can have the same issue riding on their tracks.
Cleaning out the track takes patience, and the tape will need to be replaced, then use a moly/graphite grease (such C/V axle grease) to coat the entire track and all wear surfaces. The tape is nylon, and has a tendancy to absorb moisture in the air, which I think contributes to the track rusting.
Regulator motors should be able to be disassembled and brushes replaced if needed, I can't remember.
If you want to improve the speed of the window, you might have to look into retrofitting a 92+ regulator in.

Re: Window regulator?
Hmm interesting. I just wish there was room in the door to actually work on the thing lol.

You'll have to drill out the rivets and remove it if you want to fix it.

Re: Window regulator?
Hrm, I didn't know about the CV Grease. Timely to find this. My mechanic is fixing both front windows right now. I hope he does this.MattStrike wrote:It's a motor that pushes and pulls a plastic tape to move the center guide and that guide pushes the window up/down.
