89 Bonny. Passenger side window won't roll up....

Post by nailbomb3 »

Out cruising around this afternoon with the window down. Hot out :)

I went to raise it back up, and nothing nadda zip. I can hear the motor is working fine, and at the top of the switches travel I can SEE what looks like a silver PIN of some type. That pin goes up and down depending upon which way you run the switch.

I BELIEVE it's known as a "Window Regulator Guide" Here's the part I found at Rock, but wanted to confirm that's what the problem is before I get the part:

Rock Part # Dorman 74441.

From looking at it. There is a piece of plastic attached to the head of the pin, and that's what hooks onto the underside of the window and lets you raise and lower it am I right? If that's the case, the plastic head on it busted off and what I THINK I am seeing is the head of the regulator guide "pin" moving up and down on the inside surface of the window.

That looks right, but pull off the door panel first and verify. It might have just popped off the window and not broken.

Thanks Matt! Like I said I can see the metal part riding up and down inside the window, so I'm pretty sure the plastic part is broken
off and is probably stuck in the window sash channel.

I found this last night, to my amazement. Video from Buick from 1988 explaining how the whole window system actually works:
