Return of Red Bonnechetta

Post by labonnevillastrangiato »

Hi all! Been a while. Well, I am back and have some whorage! Yes, I have whorage!

Here is my '93 SSEi. Picked it up over the weekend. Story behind it: I have been after this car for quite some time. Before my daughter was born, and she is seven! The owner and I could not reach an agreement so he decided to keep it, so I bought the green '93 I used to have. So a few years ago he called on me to make some repairs, including the installation of a high flow cat, new alternator install and I chased some of the bugs out. Then he parked the car and it sat in his yard. He was then ordered to clean up his yard by the Town. My friend is now 78 so he decided it was time to rid of some of the cars in his yard. This car was one of them, and my name sprang to mind. So, after trading some tools I no longer use, it is now officially mine.

Enough talk: Pics taken today below. I have gone over the car with a rubbing compound, more polishing is needed to bring it back fully. Some touch up paint here and there and cosmetically we're good to go. Car also has some wicked muffler installed, a Magnaflow or something. Whole lot of rumble! Not enough whine, so a CAI is in the immediate plans, maybe a switch of rims but the funky Aerolites are kind of neat. Might plasti-dip them red.. Still talking, on with the pics...

So all fluids have been drained and changed, it's officially on the road now, licensed and insured. My Envoy broke down last night with a leaky fuel pump so Red Bonnechetta has been called in! Smells like a car that has sat for a while, but drives excellent. Steering is nice and crisp, just hit 202,000km.

Hope you dig, great to be back and I must admit I have missed driving one of these!

Cheers,
Adam

Heh. Almost looks factory. I printed up a sheet of these back when I had my green '93. Back then I stuck it to the passenger side sun visor.

Matt: Since I have been Bonneville-less I still check out the forum regularly. Been following your rebuild closely, can't wait to see the end result!

Car looks to be in great shape, the interior too!

I say keep the aerolytes. They look cool and remind me of a bygone era. I think it'll look interesting with them red to match.

Yeah, I think I agree with the throw back look. If I were to swap out rims I would go with chrome torque stars if an attractive enough deal came along. I think I like the plasti-dip move because I could easily peel it off if I grow tired . These Aerolytes are in nice shape, need a little elbow grease to bring them back!

For the drooping nets behind the front seats, gather the elastic and use a safety pin to hold it tight. It will make it look so much better.

love the car and the Aerolites. They are on my '92 and I couldn't bring myself to take them off. I'm glad they are gray and not the color of the car. White on white was the only color I like besides gray. - BC

Very sexy, and it does look good for an Ontario car too!

I like to to increase the chances of getting a car which the owner wont sell at the time. Put your name and number on a sheet of paper and get him to put it in the glove box, then if the time to sell comes along, hopefully he finds your number when cleaning out the glovie.

Old guys agree. Red wheels would be too much red IMO. Maybe black if you're in the mood for a change?

Thanks all for the comments and taking a look!
Here are some bonus photos taken today.

Here it's being a whore in front of the Niagara Falls Convention Center. I think it wants to see Comicon coming this weekend.

Thanks again, all. Bit of a setback : Sounds like the harmonic balancer is on the way out. I did one on the green one a few years back and it was an arse pain. Oh well, these things happen. Glad to be a part of the community again!
