Question for you guys in the snowy climates!

What is your method for removing snow off of your cars? I have a snow brush but they all have stiff bristles that I know full well are scratching the sh*t out of my clear coat. Anyone else have a more paint friendly option or product? I am thinking about buying this maybe, its not ideal but will be easier on the finish than what I have now and still be fairly effective in snow removal. http://www.griotsgarage.com/product/was ... y=ourPicks

I don't think that wash mop is going to do much, and the first time you drop it, it's going to get sand/gravel/salt in it. I usually just get the most off of the paint, leave a thin barrier layer that the wind takes care of when I drive away. I plan on doing a full polish this spring again, because it's going to be swirled as hell no matter what...

Was waiting for some good snow to do a review here on them, but so far I have used them for about 3" of snow and absolutely love them!

Do not use a broom. Also those microfiber wash mops will do you no good.

Your broom is scratching the hell out of your clear coat. For a broom or snow brush to be strong enough to push snow the bristles must be stiff and ridged, even with feathered tips they will still scratch. Even the sno brum I posted above can still scratch if not being very careful, but it has been found to be the best choice with the least risk of damage by many detailers.

I use something very similar to what Ryan posted. It's nice because it's made of foam, and as far as I can tell, hasn't scratched the paint. I also usually do what Ed mentioned, leave just a thin enough layer so I'm not touching the paint, and leave the rest to the wind.

Doesn't matter anyway, because the last time I took the Bonneville to the car wash, the paint got severely scratched. But, that's why I now have a polisher. Gonna fix my cars, the Rainier, and my mom's LeSabre once it gets nice enough.

Interesting…may have to give that a whirl! Was that product sold on a tv infomercial at one point? When I picked up my last oil change at wal-mart I seen one like that and it said “as seen on tv”, I was a little skeptical but if I see it again I’ll have to buy it this time. Didn’t really understand the foam aspect not scratching but I trust your word and it’s a heck of a lot better than the stiff nylon or polyester whatever the eff bristle brush I have now.

I know there was one that was sold on TV, there are many variations of this same thing, but most people say this is the one to get.

How well does the brum work on ice?

I'm just using the cheap $2 wood handle with brush and ice scraper. I try to leave a thin layer of snow when clearing.

Does basically nothing for ice, you will need a separate scraper for ice on your windshield. This thing is surprisingly light, I would say only about the weight of a normal snow brush.

I use the squeege side of my extendable snow brush/scraper. It stays pretty flexible in the cold. I only use the bristle side to dig out snow from around the wipers. I don't have a clue what brand it is. Found it at Walmart several years ago.

Really anything is going to scratch the *shoot* out of the clear... god knows if it is snowing out you have sand on your car.. pushing the snow off is just going to drag sand and ice all over it

Yeah agreed.

As of recently I just began to leave a little snow on my car for the wind to get (the rest of). As much snow has fallen so far in Chicago, I know I have gotten a few scratches from getting snow off my car alone. That's really the best way regardless of what method used; Just leave a thin strip of snow on for the wind to blow off.

Nothing that isn't water or microfiber touches the paint on the Bonneville. When I used to drive thatvuear round I would just knock the bulk of the snow off by hand and let the rest blow off.

Reality is that there is maybe five cars on this entire forum (if that) that you would even know the difference if someone used a floor broom on the paint or just let it melt off on it's own. Just use something gentle like the sno brum and you will be fine.

The benefits of the sno brum I posted is that it is less likely to scratch then a brush and it is wide and tall so it clears a ton of snow fast with just one swipe instead of multiple to clear a small area.

I use a broom, but then again, I don't care about my paint that much. XD I'll just give it another polish/compound when it gets warm.

I use a car cover that covers your windows and wipers..then I let the wind do the rest of the snow...
