Transmission swap issue
So after I pulled out my stock tranny from my like bottoming out experience we found it had torqued and crack in two places. After getting the new tranny cleaned and painted and making sure all gears were working, we got her reconnected and bolted properly in and on the frame. All wires and bolts got reconnected. Brakes got bled and are working great and all new fluids in everything. She started right up after having to recharge the battery since it was completely dead. She turned over like a Princess and then going for a little test drive BAM..... First gear will not engage. It is starting out in second grear only and and will sit only at about 2000 rpms for a few seconds when floored and then it finally starts raising the tac. Any help is much needed asap Thanks guys.
Gear ratios are 2.86 final on the new one

Re: Transmission swap issue
What did the donor trans come from? (year/model) To me it sounds like the trans wire harness is not connected or something like that.

Re: Transmission swap issue
Will it go into 4th? If not its is the 1-2/3-4 solenoid. Bad AFL valve will cause this too, but they usually will work when warmed up but not always. Those are the most common problems I know. GL

Re: Transmission swap issue
2.86 ratio will have jsfm converter, 3.05 ratio will have a jzfm converter. Did you verify the ratio, before swapping? Check throttle postion connection as well.

Re: Transmission swap issue
Im positive its the 2.86 ratio and I messed with the throttle and its working just fine. Im leaning towards the solenoids because it won't shift into 1st or 4th.

Re: Transmission swap issue
Sounds just like what our van did when the trans harness wasn't connected to the trans. It was pushed on, but not all the way.

Re: Transmission swap issue
I would check that harness closely and clean all three connections. Beats the crap out of dropping the cradle and changing solenoids.MattStrike wrote:Sounds just like what our van did when the trans harness wasn't connected to the trans. It was pushed on, but not all the way.
