Material in drained oil!

Post by teerout »

Alright, the chain of events....
I replaced the driver side cv axle last weekend. Drained some of the tranny, set the fluid aside and finally dumped the old fluid into an old jug this past saturday when I needed my drain pan to change the oil.
SO, I go about my business changing the oil. When Im cleaning up and dumping the spent oil into a jug, i noticed some chunks of crap in the pan. -holycrap- what are these chunks of crap in my oil?! I picked it up, it was gasket material, the cork type gasket material.
ggrrrrrr. what gaskets in this engine are composed of that stuff? and these were chunks like pinky nail size!! :sadeyz:

I don't believe there are any cork gaskets in your engine at all from the factory, same with the transmission. Is it possible the chunks were left over from another previous job?

mmm, im not sure what job that would have come from. the pan did sit outside for a week with the trans fluid in it before i drained it. i may have just missed the chunks of stuff when i transferred the trans fluid. hmm. thanks.

The only cork gaskets I have seen for these cars are the transmission pans.

If it sat outside, it may have been bugs. I have found many dead bugs in my oil collection bin.

cork on the trans pan? I changed the trans filter a while back and it was not cork. cleaned it up and put it back on.

The original gasket is re-usable. Some, either not knowing better, or because the original was damaged, will use the cork gasket that comes with some filters.
