Bought another car! (page 4: rimzzz!)

Well, my brother and I, anyway. Plan for it is to be shared as a commuter car for both of us who work in downtown Toronto (< 18mpg dense city driving in either the GXP or the Lexus IS300 is not fun), and also as my autocross machine during the summer.

It's red.
It's 21 years old.
It's manual.
It's quirky.
It's got some utility.
It gets 30+mpg all day, every day.
It's FWD.

Any guesses?

I thought the Storm was a great looking little car when it first came out, and still think it's not bad looking. - BC

Could be an older GTI. They handled great back then according to Top Gear and other magazines.

If it is, awesome. They are so much fun to drive.

I had an 05 Civic Si Hatchback that I acquired out of debt owed situation and that thing was not even as fun as a CRX

Jerry would buy a CRX long before a '91ish GTI. CRX's are pretty wicked at AutoX with a couple grand tossed at them..

A lot of good guesses, but some aren't really autocross machines or have much utility at all

CRX and Civic Hatchback are the closest, but really what we bought is a 1991 Civic WAGON, or "Wagovan"

Image

Clean as a whistle and in amazing condition inside and out with 180,000km (112k miles). Still has a very tight chassis, 60/40 FLAT folding rear seats, no power steering, no A/C, it's pretty much a go-kart. Also, surprisingly good legroom for rear passengers.

Will throw on a decent set of grippy summer rubber come spring (Star Specs???), which will compliment the hatch Si shocks/springs it has all around. Stopping here (other than perhaps a set of Si sway bars) will keep me in Stock class in autocross, since the parts are bolt-on and available in another trim level of the same car.

Many of you remember that I used to own a 1991 automatic SE Hatchback before the 95 SSEi. It was a true beater in every sense... this one won't be. Should keep some wear and tear off the IS300 and the GXP.

Do you guys follow SCCA rules religiously? You can only use the Si stuff if the entire Si setup is installed... If there wasn't an SCCA wagon, it wont be legal in that sense, but if you're in a small/casual club it wont be a problem....

Looks like it's in decent condition!

Depending on what I do, I will be put into B-Stock or B-MOD. There will be some challenges with the rear suspension, as the wagon is a bit different because it was designed with more heavy loads in mind. Nothing major, but I'll have to mix and match between Si hatch, stock wagon, and Integra components. I will be adding a swaybar from a DX hatch - there is nothing on there right now.

Either way, I'm not looking to win in any classes, and I won't be series registering, the only issue is that it'll be pretty silly if its in B-MOD but runs and drives mostly stock.
B - Stock Class
All normally-aspirated Front Wheel Drive cars and 4-cylinder All Wheel Drive cars. Only allowable modifications are listed below.

B - Stock Plus Class
All Front Wheel Drive "R-Type" cars (Integra R, Civic SiR, Neon ACR, etc.) Front or All Wheel Drive factory forced induction (i.e. turbocharged/supercharged) cars under 2.0 litres in engine displacement and normally aspirated All Wheel Drive cars with more than 4 cylinders. Only allowable modifications are listed below.

B - Modified Class
All Front/All Wheel Drive cars with modifications not permitted in Stock class. No internal engine or boost modifications allowed.
Allowable Modifications for All Stock Classes

Any make and size of tire and wheel combination. (2% time bonus for street tires)

Any make of shock absorber/strut assembly, including adjustable shocks.

Any modification of the exhaust system from the manifold back (no modifications to the manifold permitted).

Any modification to the air intake system. Modification and/or replacement of the Throttle Body (fuel Injection) or Carb not permitted, unless the substituted part was available as an option through the OEM manufacturer for that engine.

Larger sway-bars permitted provided they were available as an option through the OEM manufacturer for that car (must be Dealer option).

Any alignment adjustment within OEM specifications.
