Keyless Entry Alarm

Post by trkelly »

I have a 97 SSEi 40th. The factory alarm has gone off about four times in the last year for no apparent reason. I have replaced the battery in both key fobs, no affect. I stopped using the fob to the car and tried it with the manual locks on the door the alarms still goes off. Even when the alarm is armed I cannot set it off by trying the handle or using the key in the door, but sure enough when 2AM rolls around it goes off. Can I disconnect the horn and still use the fob for the locks and trunk? Any help is appreciated.

Battery voltage maybe getting low?
That's what my brothers Lincoln LS does because of low battery voltage.

I've had this problem in my 99 SSEi for the past 2 years. It will go off ANYTIME. I've gotten out of the car, locked it and taken 2 steps and the alarm would sound.
And, YES, 2,3, 4, and 5 AM alarms do not help with making a good relationship with the new neighbors.
What gets me is that sometimes the car will go 3-4 months without sounding and then out of the blue it will the alarm will set off for no reason.

I was just talking to Dan (96BonnevilleL67) and he apparantly is having the same problem.

Something I know both Dan and I have is aftermarket radio's, but that doesn't narrow it down much. I have had a stock radio in my car and had the alarm set off w/o reason.

Everything is factory,no aftermarket radio or alarm. I have heard something about a "bong" test any thoughts on this?

If you do the bong test, make sure if you have friends there, they're close friends.

The first thing I tell people to check is the connection in the trunk. It's the most susceptible to corrosion, vibration, and stress. What you have back there is a 'tamper cable' attached to the trunk lock cylinder. It's designed to close the circuit when the trunk lock is tampered with. Open the trunk and remove the carpet under the trunk lid (if equipped). Follow the mechanical cable from the lock cylinder up to where it plugs into a single-wire electrical connector.

Disconnect it. The alarm will work normally, even if this was the problem, but you will no longer sound an alarm if the trunk lock cylinder is tampered with. See if this solves your problem. It's a starting point with high odds. One of my two cars is in this state now, but works fine otherwise.

I will disconnect the trunk wire but it may be awhile before I found out if that's the problem, as I said it happens without rhyme or reason, I realize fixing the problem is the best option but it sounds like it could be a trying game, that's why I thought if possible to just disconnect the horn from the alarm system.
