It really depends on what you are looking for. I have had a few sets of 12"s, a few sets of 15"s, and a few sets of 10"s as well. I personally love the deep rumble of a set of 15"s, but I had a friend that had three 10" Bazooka subs in his car and it sounded great. Not as much rumble as with the larger subs, but a bit tighter and more controlled.

If you are going for 12"s or 10"s, I personally would go with some 12"s, but it is hard to say for sure without knowing what you are looking for.

i hve 2 15's and they get annoying after a while... it just shakes EVERYTHING.... things i didnt know rattled or could rattle now rattle when ever the bass hit.... but ohhhhhh do i love ticking my grumpy butt old neigbors off!!!!

I pretty much agree with everyone else... I love the sub-sonic rumble of the 15's, but EVERYTHING rattles.

I used to be big into the car stereo stuff, but now just live with aftermarket head units. I'm getting older.

This is exactly the reason I hate most people with subs. Why would you want your bass that loud outside the car? I would rather having a single 12 or 15 that sounds great INSIDE the car, because that's where I'll be sitting.

In my 94, I have 2 Sony 12s running with a 2400W Rockford Fosgate. They have the potential to have a lot of bass, but I set them to complement my speakers with more attractive bass. If I were to listen exclusively to rap and want therefore to blot out the horrible lyrics and flat sounds with just loud bass, I could tune the setup differently to tear apart my car. I tried that once, and with pretty much every song I tried to play, my entire car rattled. What I really like about the woofers, though, is that they let bass come through while being very quiet and just helping my speakers. Sometimes, I run with the bass turned down on the euqalizer and the subs with more gain.

1337ssei has one Alpine Type-R sub with a 1000W something-or-other amp. He likes it because the sound suits him, but I believe it can't be set like my subs. He can either have too much bass or too little bass, for the way I see it. I tried tuning it a little, but I didn't get far. The bass is just too punchy with what he has, so it doesn't complement the audio from the speakers. We added a 1000W amp to the rear speakers, and that helped them play with the sub more. However, all the speakers in the car had to have their bass totally washed out. With the sub on, though, it's hard to tell anymore.

If you will have stock speakers and no amp for them with a sub and its own amp, you may notice you have too much bass. Possibly the best thing to do would be to get the right speaker box for your sub(s) and then tune accordingly. You'll have very clean bass then. With 1337ssei's setup, the box is a little bit too small. I recommend two 12s because of my experience with my speakers. There's a dual 15 box in my storage, but it'll probably end up supporting something in my garage. I can't say much about three 10s since I've never heard them in a car, but I know that 3 JLs with a proper amp and a good tune can really bring out the goods.

As for the rattling and such, I don't think Bonnevilles have that much of a problem. 1337ssei's 97 SSEi almost completely hides the bass even to people immediately outside the car with all doors and such closed. I stood right next to the trunk with the bass cranked up all the way, and the running car sounded like it had a misfire. When he opened the door to ask me what I hear, the bass was overwhelming. With my 94 SSEi, I had to find some places along the trunk lid and other areas where I put on weather stripping. That helped a whole lot, and now the bass is much more subdued. Probably with proper carpeting and the seats put back in, the car should do just fine.

My old 94 SSEi was HORRIBLE with rattling. I was running my current system (1 12" Type R and ~800 watts) in it and it sounded like a tin can at times. Granted, I do like an overwhelming amount of bass most of the time because I listen to a lot of metal (I love double bass) and rap. After about 3 years of abuse from my system, it rattled quite a bit but that was just what happened in my case.

I have just one 12" infinity perfect running right now with a flushed in wall and it sounds great, nice, clean and deep. The only rattling I have is when I crank up low notes and it's my exhaust. I have sound deadened most of the car though, and also tweaked the trunk so it closes really tightly. I am going for more of a SQ setup but it is decently loud.

I have one JL W6 in my jeep being pushed with a 800w Bazooka amp, sounds great! I also have 2 -12's (bazookas) in my 95 its way to freaking loud sounds alright. I like the w6 quality better.

The goal isn't to make it loud outside the car. If that was the goal, we would all be putting speakers and subs outside the car

Theres even kids who turn their system UP, not down, when pulling into my apartment complex

We did a custom fiberglass sealed box with 3 MTX 10" subs facing forward in an alero and that thing pounded. 3 10's have approx. the same displacement as 2 12's. It went very low as well. You can get low with 10's, you justneed more of them to move the amount of air necessary to create low frequencies. The advantage of a 3 10 system is that they have the displacement to go low, but a higher motor strength vs cone mass ratio, so theyre tighter. Ide go with the 10's. Plus everyone and theyre cousin does 2 12's. ---> not a flame against the general public!<--- I just like things to be differant.

i just do it cause they are grummpy butt old ppl.. that complain when i turn around in their drive way.. this all started b4 i got the amp.. they will run outa their garage chasing after you if you turn around in their drive.. so.... i just annoy the crap outa them..

but u have to be carefull now. they passes a law down here stating that they can take ur system if its to loud.. like over 130 dbls.. so i had mine measured and its only like 120.. so im good to go.. its not the loudness its just that 15 carry forever.. and they just have that realy low (almost unheard) thump thump thump..



but oh ya after dark i always turn it down..
