Battery Question

Post by ZimGXP »

I'm looking for a Battery for my 05. There are two, one the exact fit. The other one does fit. They look to be the same specs. The exact fit is $60 more. Anyone have some input on either.

What Brand are they?? My own opinion... I would purchase the exact fit, since your battery is under the rear seat. You need to be sure it is vented properly. And secured well. Also. I know. $ 60 more could strap your budget, but for me piece of mind is priceless.

YES, the 60+ is prob vented and the cheaper is not - I use a non - vented one in my 2000 and there are no issues. as long as the cranking amps meet specs, you should be good with either

I would get the proper vented one, you just never know when someone inside might get sick over something and it be tracked back to that. But I get that $60 speaks a lot more than venting.

Anyway, Batteries are made by two or three main companies and all these sellers do is put their case and/or labels on it. Meaning most are pretty much the same internally for the class of battery you're takling about. What you're paying for is the warranty on any battery to be quite honest.

After a little research, both Batteries are externally vented.. They're a 100 and 78 Group Battery.

One thing to be mindful of, if you're on the original battery, the OEM AC Delco battery is longer than any replacement IIRC.

As mentioned, the GXP uses a battery of a different physical size (longer) than the SE/SLE. The vent tube assemblies are also a different. If battery listings are anything like lights, they frequently don't differentiate GXP parts properly. All 2000+ Bonneville batteries are externally vented, so this really isn't a criteria (unless the listing is way off base).

Hydrogen gas is explosive in certain concentrations. This can collect under the rear seat in the same space as the fuse block which, does not use intrinsically safe relays. I can't say whether the gas would ever reach explosive levels, but this is also the reason that your last connection when boosting a vehicle should not be made at the battery. If I'm not mistaken, hydrogen gas (over time) may also affect the integrity of the seatbelt webbing and seat foam.

Personally, I think it's just a poor choice to use the wrong battery here.
