97 had the 4T60E for the NA and 4T65E for the L67 Supercharged. But the NA tune will only control the 4T60E properly, and the L67 tune will only control the 4T65E properly.. If ZZP finds a way around this please let us know.

To answer your question about the trans swap, you can swap a 4t65 in place of a 4t60. The flexplate holes for the TCC need to be elongated or re-drilled or you need a new flexplate from a '97+ SSEi (you can do this with a grinder, just have to pencil in a guide line). You need a '97 4t65 harness from an SSEi, and the axles from a '97 SSEi or any '98-'99. Note that the passenger side axle is specific to the trans between the 4t65 and 4t65hd. Some 4t65hd SSEi's also come from the factory with axles that have larger center shafts (28mm) and inner tripots, that only matters if you decide to try and mix and match parts on axles or decide to re-boot them.

I think that's it anyway.

Now it’s starting to sound like a headache to go through all that. The pcm will be arriving on Monday and I’ll be able to try it Monday night. I just can’t get my head around how if it’s not supposed to be compatible, how did it work fine in the first place before it started throwing codes? That’s my question.

If the zzp won’t work, is there a way to tune the 96 pcm? I’m wanting to get this pcm issue sorted before I start buying more go fast parts.

So I got my pcm back from zzp a few days ago with the codes tuned out of it. Put it back in the car and sure enough, still won’t go into 4th. Zzp and I have given up on trying to make it work and I am sending it back to them in exchange for some other parts.

I will look into the gm tuners for sure. Thanks for the link.
