95 SSEI oil pressure drop

Post by MissieSSEI95 »

OK. We had to rebuild the engine. Got it running but now when it idles or are at a stoplight we lose oil pressure but at normal driving its normal.
We are also having trouble with it constantly saying that its overheating even right as we start it.

Could it just be our gauges?

Might be wiring, a sensor, unlikely just the gauge as those shouldn't have been touched during the engine R&R.

The oil pressure one might be annoying to fix. Rebuilt engines usually hold ~10psi/1000rpm. So at idle, 8-9 psi is all you get. I think the factory gauge/sensor setup cuts off at 10psi before it starts chiming and showing no oil pressure. But check it with a mechanical gauge first to know for sure what the oil pressure is, and get a new 'quality' replacement part if the sender doesn't match what the mechanical gauge tells you.

Try replacing the pressure sensor. It went bad on my '98 and was leaking oil. Should fix it.
