Car won't start after installing new fuel sending unit

Post by Mckinney »

I bought a new fuel sending unit had to rewire the new wires into the old plastic connectors, one wire grey wire I had to use the same fitting or it wouldn't fit in the connector so I spliced it and wrapped it in electrical tape, other than that the fuel gauge seems to work but the car won't start at all, I checked the relay and it seemed fine even replaced it and no luck, any help would be great

hi, can you hear the pump prime when key is turned to on position?
if you removed the FP fuse, did you put it back in?

is there pressure at the fuel rail under hood?
it looks like a tire valve - push the pin in which is in the middle of the valve and some fuel will spray out so have a rag handy and protect eyes.

so why did you change the pump if it worked?
you sure you put the fuel lines on the correct ports from pump?

No fuel pressure, the gasket was a little too big, I reused the old, could that be the issue

no the rubber 0 ring is to seal the pump in tank.

you sure you put the correct lines on pump - one is to engine and other is return line

ok, good - so the car cranks but does not start?

and this may be stupid question but, I have to ask if you have gas in the tank?

so if you still have no fuel pressure at rail, please be sure the pump is working when you turn the key.
the noise may be the air pump for rear shocks - the fp will hum and be different from compressor
make sure you have gas in tank

The sounds coming from the fuel pump I have the cover off, I don't think I have air shocks, only the base model, looks like normal struts

I'll have to check that in the morning, I don't see why it wouldn't, I drove the car fine for about a hour this morning before I changed out the sending unit

ok, you must have pressure to the fuel rail - could be the pump is funky bad - you could try the old pump and see to be sure - the new pump may not hold pressure and gas goes back in the tank.

hang in there and you will sort this out...........later
