Middle break light problem

Post by somthingwierd »

My headlights recently started "blinking" every time I pressed my brakes. I thought it was my middle brake light as it flashes erratically when I hit the brakes. I unplugged the center tail light and the blinking still occurs. What could be the problem? And also if that tail light is broken is there anywhere I can get a replacement cheaper than they have them on GM's website. They are charging 90$ there!!

My first thought would be to check all the wiring down around the brake pedal. Both headlight control wiring and brake lamp switch wiring are in the area. With a "completely re-vamped sound system", I'm skeptical that something has quite possibly been disturbed in the process of installation since much of the sound system wiring is also there. Who did the work on the sound system? You MAY have a nightmare of a time solving this. I don't believe your problem is the center high mount stop lamp.

I did all the work for everything except the head unit. I had my local shop do that. Even if the light isn't causing it, something is still wrong with it.

You can get a used replacement from Andrew here on the forum. Contact him at www.bonnevillesunlimited.com or email him at andrew.suderman@gmail.com. There may be a problem with the light, but that won't be the cause of your other problem.

I read somewhere else on the internet that it can be caused by break lights shorting out. So I thought it was that since I only recently noticed it and around the same time the lights started acting up. I also read that it can be caused by my alternator not putting out enough amps. Which would also make sense given I have 2 amps in my car.
