Can I use a MAF from a 1996 Bonneville 3800 on my 2001 SSEi 3800?
Part numbers (AUTOZONE) are 2001 – DL-3011, 1996 – DL-3012
The screw holes and plug both line up, look identical EXCEPT the 1996 has a shorter plastic piece that goes into the intake vs the 2001.
Now the 2001 SE and SSEi share a MAF so the supercharger is not a factor from what I can tell.
I’m thinking it’s a thing where the 96 will work on both but the 2001 will only work on the 2001.

You'd probably want to measure resistances between the 2 to know for sure, but usually MAF design is changed mostly due to improvements for airflow, or integration ( such as a bolt on MAF vs an inline version that is held in place with band clamps.
A temporary fix does not exist. It becomes a solution until it needs to be fixed again.

Sorry, I don't know the answer to your question, but the MAF sensor generates a signal so I don't think that you can measure resistance to compare

NO, you cant. the holes line up fine but the wires that get the reading are too short: the 200+ have a much longer stalk to put the wires in the centre of TB. the reading wont be accurate.
I already tried and it didnt work- got po300 codes
put a used delco in and all is good

I put 96 MAF in my 2001. No problems, hard to tell if it runs any different but no codes or anything.
The stalk on the 2001 was longer, but the metal filament thing is in the same location.
Now the 2001 may not fit in the 96 due to stalk size, however the 96 is working in the 2001.

I would not do that... The frequency range between the( 96-98 ) AFH50M-04 is different than the 99-05( AFH50M-05 )..
For anyone reading this, Please Do Not use a 96 MAF on a 99-05..

Re: 2001 v 1996 MAF
I wasn't able to find the specs on the MAFs.
What are the differences between them and what could result from using the wrong one?
Since i swapped mine,
I haven't driven the car with any major significance. (maybe 10-15 miles)
Currently I don't really see a difference (maybe it appears slightly more responsive, could be psychological though since I'm looking for an improvement...)
No codes have been thrown, I asked a mechanic prior to attempting this and he said it wouldn't run if it didn't work.
Thanks
